Hi, I know this is not strictly the right forum for a non Ultima owner but it seems to be where the LS7 experience is.

The price in the UK seems to be around £9k plus VAT, and on the face of it I could save £2k by importing, taking into account shipping, VAT and duty.

Has anyone done a personal import? I would be interested in knowing a helpful vendor and shipping agent. So far I have surfed for engine prices and had a guide shipping price from Moving Parts.

I would also be interested in any feedback on having a loom made up and ECU choice.

The Delphi ECU seems commom in the States and Turnkey do an off road prepared package which looks ideal but a little spendy, not much cheaper than going Motec from what I can see.

Hopefully that gives you an idea of where I'm at and I'd be interested in anyones experience.

Thanks

We use the actual 07 GM Corvette ecu which is sequential MAF system. Great drivability.
The Delphi unit is non-sequential, speed density, more sensative to tuning, commonly used in GM boat engines.
For twin turbo LS engines we generally use Big Stuff 3.

I was recommended to use Bax Global for the shipping of the engine parts I purchased from the States. They were very helpful and even suggested stating Bournemouth as the port of entry. It came in via Heathrow but went through customs in Bournemouth which for some bizarre reason is cheaper.

Jeff was being careful about peddling his wares but that does not stop me from suggesting you ask Jeff for his price on an LS7 engine. Custom modified to your requirements (perhaps with a more torquey cam for use in a 4x4). If you follow the links in his profile you will find he makes a very nice engine. I think at the last count the engine he built for his own Ultima was somewhere around 1040hp.

...And, he's done near a couple of dozen now; half for export. So, he can help you with the logistics.

Thanks for your comments, I have been following Jeffs work with Ultimas for some time. I am after a standard engine as this purchase will already put me a little beyond where I would like to be financially. I will PM Jeff and see if we can sort something out.
