Gear Linkage on my 2.5

There seems to be a lot of slack in my gear linkage and I would like to adjust it out. Anyone know how to do it? Is it 5 mins or 5 hrs? DIY or Dealer only (if ever there was such a thing as a job only a dealer can do!)
My lever felt loose, if you undo the screws for the plastic cover there are 3 bolts that hold the lever and they kept coming loose. I put locking washers under them to stop it.

Not sure about eh 2.5 but on the 3R NIgel it will always be sloppy as std
I can stir porridge with mine. Save up for the M400 linkage conversion which removes the cables and replaces with propper rods IIRC. Expensive mod but i would have loved to have done this. Would have transformed the car in my eyes

Would have transformed the car in my eyesThanks , that's what I sort of heard , but wondered if I'd missed a trick . I find 1st especially hard to find as you just sort of "guess" where it should be ! The box seems to get freer when warm and for road use is ok ish but you are right , I'd like to try an M400 linkage one day !
Check the tunnel hasn't cracked. My 2.5 had a hairline crack underneath where it screws into the tunnel. I used large washers to stop the mounting moving on the tunnel and it made it much better.
Apart from that adjusting it is not easy. Either get the US manual or get a specalist/dealer to adjust it.

The bolts retaining the lever that Bondy suggested might be loose are all tight. Whilst there, I found one source of the sloppyness. The lever is pivoted in a rose jointed rod end fitted to a bracket under the front lip of the tunnel. There seems to be a lot of movement where the rod end goes into the bracket. Anyone know how it is fitted?
It won't solve it all, but anything that helps will be worth having. I'll be investigating it this weekend some more and see what else I can find.

Ray West made a very, very good job of adjusting mine - made me very glad I did not splash 1800 quid on the m400 linkage.
Personally after touching a 3R with upgraded linkage (why oh why did i do that
) i cannot see how the std car could ever have such a positive movement. It must come down to driving skill too again tho. Andy Walsh again managed to show me how slick the box can be by not fluffing a single change, while i on the other hand do under pressure. All he commented on was how easy it was to find reverse if you overshoot on 2nd to 1st.
I only find first easily by slipping it into 2nd first, something the last owner showed me. My box goes from notchy when cold, to okay when warm, to notchy again when really hot. Reverse can be a pain to engage but normally just need patience and momentum.

I think someone's slipped a Vauxhall Astra box in mine, reverse is over the other side!
I've managed to determine that the slack is due to the inner of the cable taking up the void between itself and the inside of the outer. I'm not sure if new cables would be of any help, as I'm not sure if they are susceptible to wear?
