Discussion
I am going to Le Mans (!!! ) for the first time heading down on Thursday morning from Calais. I don’t have anywhere to camp at the moment so I am looking for advice – where should I try when I get there? I have read as many of the threads as possible and someone mentioned turning up and camping in Parking Green with no pre-booked tickets – where is that? Where do you think I will have best luck in finding a place to pitch and party??
ANY advice welcome!! Is there any chance of turning up at the gates of one of the main (fully booked) sites in the circuit and getting in?? Am I going to be relegated to sleeping in the car??? (Nooooooo!!!)
Cheers,
Roger

Get used to the feel of that seat chap
You've got a couple of choices. Have a look on e-bay. There's pleanty of tickets for sale and consequently they are all cheap (face value). Also have a look on the club arnarge forum: www.clubarnage.com/yabbse/index.php?board=4
Otherwise, you can camp in the car parks (although not officially). Don't let anyone put you off saying you can't. I've done it for the last 4 years. You can. Your best bet would be the one between the ACO entrance at the Ford Chicane (with the yellow ACO sign) and the Airodrome. This is only a couple of minutes walk from the action. And this way you only pay for "parking" which used to be only £10, but is a little ore with the currebt exchange rate.
Le Mans is truely amazing. Don't let anything ever put you off going.

Found this in my archive. It might help.
(Dont know where I got it from, I have heaps of info!).
Important bit is at the end. Hope it helps.
Info follows:
The restaurants are located on the outfield roughly opposite the Hippodrome in the area marked as Le Camp on Daves map. You need to approach from the East though the place marked as Les Queutes, about 50 feet before the road meets the circuit there's an entrance to a field on the right, it's sign posted restaurant parking (or something like that).
Although there are large barriers to block the view from the restaurant (the organisers wouldn't want you to see the race for free!), you can wander through the fields and get a good view of the cars on the straight. Police didn't seem too bothered last year, only had a go at people getting right up to the crash barriers.
There's also a non ACO camp site here if you ever get stuck without a camping ticket.

Hi Rog,
we are on the 10:44 Eurotunnel Thursday morning. (Yellow Corvette)
Best plan is take a tent, mallet/hammer, sleeping bag and inflateable mattress and head for Parking Bleu which is between the Airport and Maison Blanche.
It costs about 15 euros to park there, it is close to the showers / toilets at the Maison Blanche entrance and you can park the car and put up your tent next to it.
I did this in 2000 and 2001 no trouble at all. If you get there Thursday you will be able to pick your spot. Make sure you don't pick a depression as we did in 2001 and found our tent in the middle of a small lake!!

Another ruse that has worked in the past.
If you want to join friends in a particular camp site, wander into that site and offer to buy the camp site tickets off those already on the site. The people with motorhomes are the best bet as once in they rarely go anywhere until after the race.

This will be my 5th trip and until this year I have never booked camping in advance and never had problems finding camping. There are many unnofficial sites - the best I found was last year within the viewing area on Mulsanne corner. Group of 8 with 4 cars/tents turned up around 1pm of the Friday and there was bags of space - spot of haggling with the local lass that held the tickets and bingo - ringside plus priority parking at Mulsanne. Go on, be brave, try it!
