Hello everyone, I have a 78' TVR Taimar... well it's more a 3000M than a Taimar right now as the rear hatch opening mechanism is missing. Can someone explain me how it works or what parts are in there & how it should be ?

I only have the push-button in the driver's door pilar connected to... nothing !

I can only use the emergency cable to open the hatch... not very practical !

There should be a solenoid at on the inside of the tailgate, which is attached via two wires to your door jamb button. I can't remember what the solenoid is from, but I am pretty sure the tailgate catch is from a Mark 2/3 Capri. Sorry I can't be of much more help, it's almost 4 years since I sold my Taimar so I'm doing it from memory.
If you come to Papplwick you'll be able to see lot's of Taimars to compare yours with.

There should be a solonoid to pull the cable, I will try to remove the trim from mine tomorrow and take a photo if I can get access, I seem to remember I had to work on mine by feel when it stopped working last year though. The problem with mine was that the solonoid did not pull the cable far enough so I had to adjust it

The solonoid can be accessed from inside the car (lay on your back in the rear luggage area). It is easy to wire-in a redundant system, i.e just a (+) and (-) wire to the solonoid. When all else fails, pull off all the trim and use a piece of bent piano wire to drag the solonoid out, brutal but simple. (All this from memory, I sold my last Taimar about 10 years ago).

There has never been an emergency cable fitted to the Taimar ....The Standard fitting is an electo-magnetic unit with a bullet type internal that pulls a Mk1 Ford escort modified unit (the same is fitted to the 3000S, and is easier to photograph, Oliver) The common fault with these is that the chrome plated bullet rusts and then, the rust flakes grip the bullet and it seizes, OR people lubricate it! I have NEVER seen a faulty unit that cannot have the bullet part re-chromed and the electro-magnet cleaned and put back into operation. The mechnanical lock suffers from the water drain in the shell getting blocked and the unit again rusting, the spring is the first part to fail, but the main part can be treated and re-plated.

That looks lovely.

I have a Taimar with a black interior which I am considering getting re-trimmed and I do like the colour of your interior, makes the interior seem alot lighter.

Engine pictures. I don't like it but it has an "upgrade" Holley carb setup and polished "TVR" cam covers. I like the original setup/cam covers better (or a triple Weber setup), but how many original swiss Taimars are out here to choose from ? smile
Any idea of the colour name ?

Oh my God you have made my day !

This was my car (4319FM) which I bought as a Personal Import when I lived in Switzerland in 1978 ! The leather seats were optional extras.

It was my first TVR and I used it as my everyday car. I sold it when I left Switzerland in 1983 to move to Belgium, then re-acquired it after I moved back to England in 1985.

I had the wheels diamond-cut and added the polished rocker covers and black carpets (the originals were foxy browny ginger colour). David Gerald TVR did the respray, the paint was a bit thin.

I later sold the car to a chap called Stefan who had come over from Switzerland looking for a TVR so it "went home". I still have all the history etc. so Email me your address via my profile and I will send you some details.

Best wishes and good luck with the car, I loved her.

Many thanks again to you for the kind emails and pictures, if you allow me to post this. I'm glad history of this car is being nearly fully known !

Every time I take the car out, I have lots of nice comments and thumbs up. No one can really figure out what this exotic is. I'm sometimes asked if "Taimar" is a car make smilelaugh
