indicator stalk

basically what car is it from? mine dont cancel when i turn left, it does cancel when i turn right though lol, so i either have to attempt to repair it, replace it or allways plan a route with right turns only as i am too stupid to remember to turn it off manually.

order of preference is

1) repair
2) replace
3) only drive using right hand turns

might take it out for a look later and see whats up, would be could to know what it comes from though

it might have something to do with the steering wheel being askew. had this with another car. had someone move the wheel and it messed up the cancelling rings location. hope you get it sorted as its one of those annoying niggles

acually thats a good point, think i will do the tracking first and see what effect it has before i leap in and strip it all down.

Sean, mine is the opposite to yours...works on left turns and doesn't on rights. Between us we've got a good one Strangely enough, this is the third time mine has gone (always the right turn) but yours is the first time I've heard it happening to someone else. I had the first two replaced FOC but I think I'm gonna have to stump up the dosh this time, so I'm interested to know where it comes from too.

hmm, was hoping mine wasnt working as the steering wheel is not straight, am gonna get toe checked tomorrow and once wheel is straight see if it starts to work. do you know what it is that fails? i am guessing if it has failed its just a plastic arm/ nipple which has sheared therefore maybe it is repairable

Steering Column (and Stalks) are from Ford Escort as far as I know

Roger at the factory looked at mine after he got it out, and decided to put a whole new unit in...

It's probably best to take it out and take it to a Ford main dealer to ask.

yeah. what i plan for tommorrow is to go get my tracking sorted cos my steering wheel aint straight, once i have that sorted i will check that it still doesnt cancel, if not i will take it out and pop done to ford.

Just driven my Uncle's L reg Fiesta diesel van and something felt sadly familiar.
Except pressing the left hand indicator stalk actually sounded the horn.

The steering housing and stalks are from a mk3 ford fiesta

there is a tab that sticks out and cancels when the wheel passes

probably best to lift the covers off - two srews on top and 4 underneath

then turn wheel so that it sits central

see if the wheel is now centraly mounted

i suggest you take it somewhere that can adjust the tracking by moving both ends of the steering track rod ends - adjusting one side only makes the steering wheel sit offset

had toe set up correctly and steering wheel is now straight, indicator still dont cancel on left turn though. gonna whip it out and have a look

there is a little white tab thing that sticks out and resets the stalk

you can unscrew the whole indicator stalk and take a look - try a squirt of WD40 - that may be all it needs

Mine's a bit iffy either way - bit embarrasing sometimes as I can't always hear the ticking noise so leave it on for ages. I must look like a right....

that sort of thing always happens on fords like the girlfriends escort dont cancel on the left.

weird, removed it, played with the reset latch with my fingers a few times in both directions, put it back together and it works.

guess it is a noble thing lol
