I know there's a couple of music fans within the racing community, and more specifically, those who are into the Drum & Bass scene
Yes, and, err... no! Music is a big part of my life. I averaged 1 gig every 9 days last year. But Drum & Bass? No. It's mostly tuneless noise to me, I'm afraid[1]. To be honest, I'm pretty happy with the current rock oriented stuff that gets played -- you'd never guess from looking at me :-)

[1] Yeah, of course it's all subjective, and people say the same about my musical preferences...

Music at SCR is alright, I just wish the carnival part of the whole affair was more courteous and turn off the music a little earlier than 3am every bloody night.

It got very annoying very quickly!

Ooooh Steve , you're such a wag ! Besty said you'd posted something about me being a fan of such a noise ! The only Drum 'n' Bass I can stomach is a cool standup Cocktail drum Kit and a doghouse bass ! Don't think Bob Wills or BR549 would count would it Steve ? As for Thrash Metal .... rolleyes
All the music played at SCR is buried deep in the bowels of a 'puter, the tekkies at the track set it off in the morning and shut it off at night, other than that there's nowt to tell.. I'm not allowed to take any of my cd's in the tower ! banghead

You all need to join my campaign for a new theme tune for Top Fuel Dragster.

If you've got MSN Music or iTunes or some other download service, check out "Planet Hell" by Nightwish, from their album "Once".

Play it loud and see if you can spot at which point the first pair fire up biggrin

Changing that music certainly gets my vote.

or; Fuel by Metallica, seems like a logical choice too

the old music was good before the "y'all ready for this" crap was added on

I have to say, much as I like the band, and much as I like that track, I didn't think it worked at Mantorp. The intro is just too quiet. I actually think "Fanfare for the common man" is pretty much perfect, but like Adam, I hate the "Y'all ready for this" on the end. It's just so out of place. But the track itself does exactly what it's intended to do: herald the arrival of the class, and get the crowd to sit up and take notice.

I'm in agreement on this one, and there are many versions to choose from - there is the original track by Aaron Copland whcih sent shivers down my spine when driving somewhere listening to Classic FM, and there is the ELP version played recently by a station I listen to a bit more frequently, Planet Rock. I think the original would fit better as that is what forms the basis of what we currently have. I still haven't worked out who is responsible for the 'interesting' mix.

I think the reason the track works is in it's name - it is a Fanfare. It has a strong and dramatic opening and acts as a call to their feet for the crowd, and as far as I am concerned it would be a shame to lose it.

I agree. I think different tunes can be introduced at different drag racing venues. I am a stickler for tradition and when the fanfare is played - wherever you are, people just stop and run for the fence or stand...i love seeing everyone stand up on the bank just as it is played. Goosebumps!

Saying that i did enjoy listening to the tune at mantorp. It should stay and it will surely grow smile
