What do you do when the weather is so depressing, you are TVR mad, and have a dad who used to be a boat builder?
Well, Build a TVR based speed boat!! Looking at a boat similar to the Chris-craft Lancer (www.chriscraftboats.com) but reduced to about 18 ft length. Gonna have to power it with a 5L Rover V8 from a chim/griff and prob continue the style of the interior, seats, dash etc throughout the boat! 0-60? hmmmm, will have to see...
Will post more details in a few weeks when I get a chance to discuss in detail with the old man. If anyone interested of course!

Weighing up the pro's and cons of both. Most prob will use Jet drive as safer and simpler.
Will be on the look out for a severely trashed 5.0 Chim/Griff for the engine, seats, dash and various other bits sooooon!
Havn't told the girlfriend that the design is going to based around all things TVR. Hope she will be too wrapped up in her new Lotus Europa to care!

Going to be quite novel having the water on the outside of a Chim!

This is interesting. Take it this will be a planing hull as opposed to a deep vee. And with jets you'll be adding trim tabs - stabilisers as well?
Paintwork: starmist silver?

Sounds like a good project but is there going to any difference between a marinised TVR engine and a standard Mercruiser V8? Until recently I had just such a beast (and it was a beast!). 290 horses, straight thro' exhausts, 5.3 litre V8 in an 18' Broom Capricorn (deep vee). It was louder than any tivvy! See my thread here earlier this year.

She was a real head (or ear) turner and I would doubt if a TVR engine would provide anything different. Remember, a new boat has to have through the prop exhausts or, at least, a switch for transferring the exhaust (and thus the sounds!) between the prop and straight thro' the transom.
Good luck geez! Visit Littlehampton marina there are pklenty there to drool over!
By the way. I missed my boat so much I bought a TVR!

Weight is the answer methinks.. A Mercruiser V8 and Volvo Penta V8 for that matter are effectively Chevy V8 engines which, in marine guise are the old Iron Block / Iron Head design. The RV8 being alloy makes it much lighter..
Despite better power to weight than my V8 boat its still gonna use a shed load of fuel..
regards,
Nick
