Front Click/Clonk
Discussion
I seem to have a Click / Clonk noise somewhere from the n/s front. Replaced front upper ball joints 2 weeks ago as they were worn and checked bearings, bottom joints, Track rods and suspension arms for play at the same time and all seemed ok. The noise sometimes comes when going over bumps at speeds up to 30mph but also when changing direction (turning the wheel ) at slow speed. It is a single clonk/click and not a rattle type noise. Today I tried to feel if the steering rack maybe loose but not easy to get to the allen bolts and brackets but all seems ok.
Anybody got any ideas as I would like to do a trackday soon but don,t feel comfortable with this noise being there.
Matty.
P.S. Got caught in the rain tonight on the way home tonight (spins in 4th He he) and have wet patches both sides behind seat and between seat and doors. Anybody had this and can advise where to aim for with the silicone...

No feeling through the wheel at all. Maybe I will Get the shock off for a better inspection, I must admit the shocks don,t look like they have weathered well but looking around not many do. Any idea whether You can buy just the spring or is it a complete replacement and can you buy from Bilstein or dealer part.

Deffinitley had movement in the top ones which was where I thought the noise was coming from. But when I had the top disconneced to replace them, I felt the bottoms and they seemed fine. I believe the later 3R bottoms are MK1 Cavalier. If I can get the part no and work out how the bottoms come out I may change em anyway as the tops only cost me £7.49 each. Theres a large circlip in the bottom so I believe they come out throught the bottom of the arm.

re wet patch , I have the same but I am struggling to track it down , I dont drive the car in the wet much if I can help it and it sometimes seems to be after washing it and i currently suspect bad sealing between the side windows and the rubbers so I dont spray too hard round there when I'm washing it . One guy who trades them says that the back window can leak as well ...I dont know much about that , just thought I'd point you in that direction ...good luck !
