What to look for when buying a V8S???????

I think I've infected my fahter with the TVR virus. He has seen a very late and very lowmileage example in BRG. I've got a Cerbera since 6 months.

He now wants to know if there a typical things you have to look out for. For example what is the oilpressure cold/hot, chassis, electrics etc etc. The car has Chimaera wheels.

Any information will be helpfull!

Hi re: the V8s its the same for any S series car look at the chassis first. A good look underneath is essential to check for rot! Good signs are that the chassis has been wax oiled and painted. Check in the normal places around front wheels and rear wheels also fuel tank and the fuel tank mounts at the rear of the car. Chassis repairs are costly as could entail the body being removed. The seat belt mounts are connected to the chassis under the rear wheels arches this takes a pounding from debris, check their condition as this can be MOT failure as I found out on mine. Also look at the outriggers. The V8 engine, as long as it has been serviced at the correct intervals, evidence of oil change etc should be fine. They are never worked that hard and people often refer to them as being lazy! Listen for tappet noise at start up, look for evidence of coolant leakage around swirl tank. Signs of over heating problem. These cars when in traffic do get hot fast. The cooling system needs regular bleeding. A good test is to let it sit at idle and watch! See if coolant is ejected from the cap. The age of these cars mean spring will of sagged and shocks will be worn. New shocks and springs is also desierable. Also the exhaust is another area to look at. Stainless systems are desierable and if the car has one its will save future expense. Check for leaks around the manifolds as well. Front ends get hammered and expect stone chips, the Lucas spots are not available now but you can get ones from Halfords made by Ring which are resonable as the spots do get stone chipped. Also look at the condition of the indicator lenses on the front at present these are not available and ebay sellers are charging high prices for them, last check was 50 pounds for a pair! I think thats it. Did I miss anything?

Be aware that the oil pressure isn't anywhere near as high on the V8 as the V6, mine typically runs at 40psi cruising which is below halfway on the gauge (gauge goes to 100).

Yup, agree with that, my S2 runs 20+lb higher oil pressure than my V8S. Do check the chasis, if that's OK, that's the biggest problem.

Many thanks of behalve of my father. Explained to him yesterday how to chat on this forum. He is is a member himself now, so hopefully we will have another tivver in the family soon.

By the way, it is was the one of the cars considered (autoscout)and we might go to have a look. We are going to see a Chimaera also tomorrow. So we are looking around to see what would be best suited.
