I've had my Tuscan all of 3 months now, I couldnt have anticipated exactly how much I would love it.

I did stretch myself a bit financially to buy it early this year but it would have been a shame to wait till september and miss out on the summer driving (which turned out to be a bit rubbish anyway)

anyway, I now find myself on the receiving end of a rather substantial payrise which is already buring a hole in my pocket.

Mechanically the car is spot on, having had a TVR power RR rebuild only 3k miles before I bought the car. I have complete faith in the engine being a goodun (as far a the sp6 goes ! biggrin )

cosmetically its not the best (not terrible though), stone chips and scrapes, slightly tatty and "unstuckified" interior. It also needs some nitrons fitted.

Im tempted to either...

OPTION 1
Splash some cash on the car, nitrons, full respray (new colour maybe?), pro tidy-up inside or full retrim. could be anywhere between £4-6k for this, maybe more depending on what I do. this would be "dead" money and Id never realise it in the value of the car, but I would end up with one sweet MK1 tusc!

OPTION 2
Flog it in the spring and get a newer MK1 Tuscan, in perfect condition, although it prob wont have had a rebuild, and may not have warranty, my car is "tried and tested" by me, i took the leap and lucked out with a goodun do I want to do that again?? prob cost additional £6-10k on top of what I get for selling my current car.

OPTION 3
Keep it another 18 months, and go the whole hog and get a sagaris, again my main worry is getting lumped with one with "gremlins" if I get a 2-3 year old saggy it might just be coming up to rebuild o-clock etc.... this will cost LOADS! biggrin

What do you think chaps? I cant make my mind up!

p.s Anyone else think its odd the first thing I think to do is not save, or get a new house but to spend it on TVRs! biggrin

p.p.s You'll notice a lack of Tuscan II in the options list, I quite like them but for the price of a goodun the step up to a saggy isnt massive so I counted that option out.

all good options, the only thing about the sag is no open roof ,apart from that its perfectcloud9
personally i would stick with what you have, paint the odd panels that need it and get a set of gaz or nitrons, then get on the trackdriving

I must admit Im leaning more towards spending some cash on getting the car sorted (thanks for the PM with spraying details dominic)

Im thinking 2.5-3k full respray, 2k retrim, 1k nitrons.

If I got 14-15k for my car in the spring I would have to spend a lot more than an additional 6k to get a "mint" MK1 Tuscan. mid 20's seems the right price at the moment.

then again, I only found out yesterday there was only ever 125 (ish?) Saggys ever made (pls correct me if Im wrong!)!! Makes me think I should just bite the bullet and get one whilst they are still available before the inevitable "thinning of numbers" from accidents, thefts, mistreatment, etc.....

have you seen what richard has done??
cloud9 probably not cheap!

what does the bill look like richard? £20k+??

my advice would be to spend the money on the tuscan, altho a Saggy would be tempting! but i guess in a couple of years the Saggy would need new shocks and tidying up etc, as with any TVR you need to spend some money to keep them in tip top condition.

Id also go with option 1. Although I'd spend less on it as like you say its 'dead money'

Enjoy the Tuscan, spend little bits hear and there and get the Sag in 18 monthes time...

Option 1 because you get a sorted car. If you are going to keep it then it's a no-brainer.

If you buy a Saggy you get a newer car but potentially similar issues in the future and more depreciation as well.

Don't know how much I have spent on mine, but I get immense enjoyment out of perfecting the breed and pass on as much of what I have learned as possible.

Probably spent about £10-£12k, but then I console myself that I have a well sorted Tuscan and it's fairly unique.

I am tempted now and again by the dark side (911 GT3) but I resist.

Next step is Turbo Speed 6 this winter!!!

Tidy the trim, tidy the paint, fit some Bilstiens and have it waxoiled. Probably 3k tops.smile

If you can stretch to a Sagaris, I would recommend it...VERY STRONGLY biggrin and buy the best you can afford.

Its looking like a "cheap option 1" (front end respray, nitrons/bilsteins, tidy up inside)

followed by a Sagaris in 18-24 months time.

Keep your opinions coming though!

Thanks.
