Just wondering if anyone has used this company for their warranty scheme, they are listing TVR as one of the cars they cover. I had a email from the sales team who said they will be stopping TVR soon but it can still be purchased at the moment www.car2cover.co.uk

Before I start I'll say I have no experience of this company and this is just my opinion.

The fact that he says they're stopping selling TVR policies probably means they've taken a bit of a 'hit' and have either lost money or not made enough for it to be viable. So my thinking would be that they may be reluctant to pay out if anything goes wrong or be very picky. I'd stay away.

All IMO as I said

Do a search for car2cover in this section and the t350 section. There are recent threads (July 2007) that mentioned them.

Had a look at the thread - there wasn't anything convincing either way as to weather it was a good policy or not - anyone else had any experience of these guys and if so how were they?

Not sure if it's worth the gamble, but for the sake of £500 might be worth it, just encase something happens.

Mannings have negotiated a warranty. They were advertising it at Diamond Rock. Choices of levels of cover as well.

I've just dug out the leaflet.

Cars under 7 years old = Platinum cover: £460 for 1 year, £825 for 3 years. Thats less than £300pa.

Cars up to 12 years old = Silver: £395 and £635 respectively.

Call them on 01491 578759.

Seemed pretty good to me but then I've got a 13-year old car so I wasn't looking at it as a potential customer. If you want more details, I could send you a copy of the leaflet by email.

I discussed this warranty with Mannings at The Rock. The Platinum covers cars up to 7years old-max £2500 per claim, the silver covers cars up to 12years old-max £1000 per claim.I said to them that £1000 max per claim on a TVR wouldnt cover very much!(I insure my car with them BTW)

Well I wished I'd had a warranty on the Griff that's for sure, claim limit to the value of the car as well.

I have a 12 mths policy with MotorPlan: Premier Super Exec with a £2k per claim limit. Estimate the cost at £500-700 (purchased through dealer). It has ceertainly earnt back the lower of these figures in the fisrt 6 mths

Hi Guys,
I deal with most of the `reasonable' warranty companies in my job, but I have to confess I have not heard of these.

A thing to remember when buying a used car warranty is that it is NOT a cover all warranty and does not give you the same extensive cover as a manufacturers warranty!

A good one will cover most major mechanical items for failure, but does not cover wear and tear.

All warranty companies have teams of qualified engineers who travel the repair garages to view evidence of failed vehicles to ensure that they meet the criteria.
Any evidence of wear and tear and the warranty claim is rejected.

Also another thing to bear in mind is that some companies now operate a betterment clause.
This means that if a component fails on your car and is accepted by the company as a valid claim, then they can insist that to replace the faulty item, they require a contribution from the policyholder as the replacement part improves the vehicle beyond its condition and mileage.

In some cases I have known the warranty company insisting the customer pays in excess of 60% of the total cost of the job!

In these cases it would better for the customer to repair the vehicle himself at the garage of his choice, rather than be forced to go to a garage recommended by the company.

Your choice, but I would rather have the benefit of choice than be dictated to by some faceless warranty company.

Cheers all and good luck

Roy

The literature with the Mannings one, at least for the platinum, says 'all mechanical and electrical parts' including turbo/supercharger, air con (both only if factory fitted) ICE up to only £250, timing belts, clutch - including wear and tear and if burnt out surprisingly, brakes, casings and possibly the cat, but the wording is obscure. Exclusions include all bodywork (and goes into details), wheels and tyres service parts, non-original equip and oil seals. There are some other minor bits. Seems clear, apart from cat, and would not give an awful lot of scope to renage.

The silver is specific as to items covered. Much clearner but more limited.
