Does anyone know the basic figures for this car?

Im interested in all the versions - does anyone know the weight/power/torque of any of them standard? and an approximate figure of how much can be had from these engines with sensible tuning?

thanks in advance,
BCA

I test drove the Golf TDi 150 and was impressed by the power, but not the handling. Tried the Seat Leon Cupra TDi 150 and it was so much better and > £2k cheaper too.

Had the Revo done and it's a brilliant car. 150bhp up to apparently 190. Torque massively improved. Power comes in earlier and stays longer, making it a much better drive.

As far as figures go, they quote the standard at anywhere between 8.6 and 7.7 secs to 60mph depending on where you look. Post revo is much better depending on temperature and road conditions. The biggest problem is getting all that torque down with two wheels. No idea what the top end speed is, but it goes fast enough.

Fuel economy is very good. Early to mid 40s on a spirited drive, late 40s to mid 50s on long journeys, high 50s to mid 60s if you really work at stretching a tank. Had 675 miles out of a 60L tank once.

Great engine, but do yourself a favour and get the Leon and not the Golf. No need for badge snobbery! (also the Mk1 Leon is a much nicer looking car than the Mk4 Golf IMHO)

Not my car, a friend has one and im trying to get an idea of its pace/the reason it feels quick. I suspect it has a shed load of torque, but cant find the figures...

Equally not sure what tdididiiti variant it is, so really after figures for all of them.

Look at the car reviews on Parkers website.

That should give you all the info you need.

Look at the badge
It's something more or less like:
early car (pre-'01?)with TDI all in silver - 90bhp (non PD)
early car with I in red - 110bhp (non PD)
'01ish car with D and I in red - 115bhp (first "PD" model - feels much faster)
later car with D and I in red - 130bhp (PD)
later car with all silver badge - 100bhp (PD replacing 90bhp model)
With TDI badge ALL in red - 150bhp
With GTI badge and a red I, also 150bhp (the badge was an option)

The 150bhp models, the 110bhp, 115bhp and the 130bhp I believe all have the same sports package as the petrol GTi - tinted rear lights and body coloured rubbing strips, plus sporty shaped seats on the inside.

All 1.9 litre.

We had the 115bhp when they were new, I remember marvelling at its pace. But I did drive a Mk2 1.3 at the time! It may or may not feel fast these days, diesels have come long way. It would probably feel torquey, but ultimately you aren't going to go anywhere that fast with only 115bhp

Covered it all there fella. Though the badge policy you say agrees with my view, the best way to tell is by checking the sticker in the boot.

Also the PD models will have a 6 speed box.

I had a 115bhp Bora, but it had 215 torques hehe and was a great overtaking machine

So.. what's the deal with the new VAG TDis then?

I've been trying to get my head round it, I think it's this

Audi a4 1.9 - 115bhp PD
Audi a3 1.9 - 100bhp PD
Golf 1.9 - 100bhp PD
2.0 TDis are all 138bhp unless red 'I' (passat), twin silver exhausts (A3) in which case 170bhp.
Not sure how you spot a 170bhp A4 ?
Also I see new SEAT Leons about with the "DI" of the tdi badge in red - what does that mean? Are they 1.9 or 2.0??

I have to say, having driven TDIs of A3 2.0 and Golf (Plus) 2.0, I was not as excited by the power/torque as I expected to be. They didn't live up to my fond memories of that early 115bhp PD Mk4.

As a tip, ignore the badges.

They are often put on by dealers and while some seem to make sense or correlate not all will.

For example a 115 TDI and a 130 TDI have the same badging on golfs and boras.
