I have been offered some tarmac rally slicks with a small traed cut into them. I realise that they wont be as good as mickey t's etc but do you think they would give me much of a adavntage as they are really cheap ?

it depends on the compound to be honest. i used to run standard road tyres on my legend and it was a nightmare finding slicks because it has 13 inch wheels and all drag slicks fit 15 or 16 inch wheels. in the end i contacte hoosier and they recomended some bias hill climbing slicks whch are used on ingle seaters. the soft compound is roughly the same as hoosiers D05 compound and theyve worked well so far. anyway....yes depending on how soft they are they should work well in theory, failing that you can always use grip softner on them anyway.

I wouldnt bother martin. They are ment to warm up over a period of time and they are very hard. The compound is very very hard compared to drag slicks been ultra soft. I have seen them used by one of my mates and they do nothing. They dont flex and you would proberbly have to do a 5 minuite burn out. You would be better of with your road tyres. Deffo.

agreed jago, thats why the hillclimbing tyres work great on my legend, in hillclimbing the tyres have to heat up real quick just like drag racing, plus they have a little give which is why they work well for me. it realy depends on how cheep is cheep!..if theyre a tenna then you havent got anything to loose but if your talking a hundred quid then you might as well get proper drag slicks etc

The tyres I have been told are medium/soft compound, so even them are not worth ago ?

The idea of a 5 min burnout appeals to me that would be nearly as smokey as one of yours Adam laugh

Lol, I think if you are spending £80 on some slicks for a diffrent type of racing i think i would be willing to put another £100-£200 in and get the tyres that are exactly what you want. Chances are noone will want to buy them from you if they are no good. Dave alwood sells the rally cross slicks for around £5 or £10 each 2nd hand but they are far too hard. I would not even concider them mart. Get the ones you need, As you have got a good car that needs good grip. Dont cut the corners on the things that matter the most. TYRES. driving
