Can any one help (Probably Owen).

I want to take out my spark plugs, is this an easy job or does the manifold have to come off requiring re-torquing etc?

This is for a 2.5.

It's a doodle. The 3 on the front of the engine ( i.e. towards your seat ) and very simple. Just unplug the wires that go to the coils on the top and then the coil just pulls off. Just a plug socket to get the plug out.

The rear three require you to remove the plastic plenham housing. About 16 bolts as I recall, they are captive so they wont fall out when you lift the plenham off. Then just the same as the front ones.

No coils on a 2.5 mate wink

Still easy bondy, can't remember if you need to pop the upper inlet manifold off, but even if you do it's still easy. Just be careful not to drop anything down the inlets!

Make sure you number the plugs....
Then unplug the leads and undo with a spark-plug socket on an extension smile

Oh, as there not ? HT plug lead/coil, it's all the same really.

When I took mine off to fiddle with the coils I was paranoid I'd dropped something down one of the inlets ( which, of cause, I'd not ). But, what do you do ? All you can do is a) take your engine out and strip it down to find out or b) start it up and hope nothing goes crash-bang. Thankfully b) happened !!

Cheers Owen

If I have to take off the upper inlet manifold does it require torquing back into position and I assume I don't need to disconnect the injector wiring?

no mate, no injector wiring to disconnect. I've never torqued up the manifold bolts smile

Yes ! I was convinced I'd dropped the socket, which I had, and that it might have gone down one of the inlets, which, looking at it, it could not possibly do. Still, I was somewhat relieved when I turned the key and it fired up without a big bang !

Just had a look at it looks like I may be able to get them all out without removing the manifold.

When I changed my plugs all I had to do was unbolt the intake plenum and it has enough play to just shift it over far enough to get at the rear plugs without disconnecting the other hoses and wires, etc.

Sorry. Didn't realize it was a 2.5. We don't have those here in the US.

Bondy - what plug gap are you going for now you've had the remap? When I was having mine mapped (by Yellowshed to 340) the boost blew the spark out and they had to pop the plugs out and close the gap. I am not sure what they ended up with as they were discussing using 20,000 or 25,000.

Thanks for that Paul as thats exactly what we think is happening. I'm going for 30thou 0.75. I will use a 0.75 gauge so it probbaly will be slightly bigger maybe 0.8.

As the car had a new ECU and when starting the setup the car runs very rich (it still is a bit at the mo but there is more work to do yet) So I also want to clean the plugs.
