What about Finish Line Grandstands at Santa Pod on the pit side.

lt would be awesome to watch the cars hurtle past at speed.

Yes it would be ok IF it was free!
Too much of this taking away 'our' stuff in order to pay for other stuff going on just now. I do not mind paying to get in to the track but that's it, I do not want to then have to pay to watch what I have just paid for at the gate.
Like most folk there is a limit to what we can run to! The gate price goes up every year more than inflation, that should be enough to cover improvments!
Look at the pits area now, not so long ago you could get up to the start area for free, stand on a box or whatever, now its pay to sit on a seat too small for some and sometimes you can't see when folk stand up etc! Not just that, but they will not let you in the bits near the seats that are free to stand anymore when the big races are on!
Next will be pay to get into the pits! That would kill it then! Sorry to go on but this is not the way to win fans over! blabla

We always used to have to pay to get into the pit side area of the track, the extra cash went to the racers, and I still have many 'pit passes' stuck to the front of race programmes. Hmmmm, perhaps not a bad idea, that!

Nothing in life is free. Sorry, but thats the way it is. Would you rather be paying mid '90s prices and watching 3 top fuel cars fighting out a championship round? SPR (for I assume that is where your vitriol is directed) is still the best value international motorsport in Europe.

Totaly missing the point altogether. All I am trying to say is some of us just want to go, PAY at the gate, go watch without having to pay again, see some nice cars in the pits, talk to some racers, pay for a burger, set our tent up, use a bog etc.
Thats all some of us want!
Something for free is not the issue here as we have just paid at the gate!
Looks like we 'poor' fans are getting our noses pushed out even more now. But that's life nowadays.

As far as I am aware it is still free to sit on the bank, and if you take your own folding chair it is better than any grandstand in my opinion. Compare that to Hockenheim or Mantorp Park and you will realise that Santa Pod isn't trying to pick on the fans - far from it, they are trying to provide an altogether better experience for the fans without compromising anyones safety or the smooth running of the event.

It seems to me that the track already provides what you state you want and you are complaining about a scenario which is not likely to happen, so on the whole things look rather rosy for you.

So does Santa Pod not get affected by inflation of prices when they purchase stuff?

I went to Santa pod on Monday for the first time in a couple of years since i stopped full time racing

Walking around the site when its empty of racers, spectaors and vehicles etc really gives an idea of how far the facility has come , i remember being pitted on grass back in the early 1990's nowdays racers whinge if they cant be pitted on the fresh tarmac, the old stuff is seen as being secondclass.

The amount of tarmac and quality of the surface is stunning , work was obviously being done on the main grandstand at the moment it seemed bigger than i recall and generally the site is looking so much better year on year.

The fire up road is much improved, wider and allows more organisation for the start crew.

The entry road again is so much better, we used to have to watch the cupboards in the caravan opening as you drove over in surface was so poor.

I know cost have gone up and the racers realise that more than the fans but the facility there is really something to be proud of.

As a comparison against other forms of leisure entertainment like touring car or BSB its cheap compared to F1/Moto GP its the sale of the century.

I get the impression from your old posts you can see no good with what the Pod has done for us and the sport. You want it to be 1978 again with a run down barn, pot hole ridden roads, grass pit areas, dire toilet facilities, dodgy food, old grandstands, pay to get in the pits etc. Take the rose tinted glasses off. We are onto a winner here and all you can do is moan.

ln your profile you own a Ford Mustang, you sure ain't that poor!!!

l don't even have a car, l travel down by train, rent a car when l get there & stay at a B & B.

But l still think Santa Pod is fantastic value for money, and l like to sit in the grandstands. l would like grandstands near the finish as the view would be awesome.

And perish the thought that SPR should actually make a profit FT, what with them being a business and all. Everyone knows it's a non profit making organisation and is only there to provide world class drag racing for bargain basemement money.Topfueldrags, price up a few hours on a Sunday afternoon at Silverstone to watch the Grand Prix and it's support races, I think you'll probably find it's more than the cost of full weekend admission to both the FIA races at SPR mate.

You are right, providing things don't change they will stay the same smile.
I love SPR just as much as anyone else and think the world of the folk that run it, I have spent hundreds of pounds there over the years and hope to be able to do so in the future.
But I love drag racing even more so and so that's why I am saying this and pointing a few things out that have happened (or could happen soon) to us fans that some of us are not to happy about!

Just recently we have lost/loosing the barn free view to be replaced by a wall with no view and in return gained a set of 'pay to use' seats in place of another good view we used to have for free or should I say included in the gate charge!
So why not move the seats back a bit and let us have the 'free' view back at least? It would not spoil anything as the seats are high up and there is no risk as far as health and safety go! Why be mean with us why not give us that view back? Simple answer, because that would mean some fans would not then buy the seats, so we loose out again if we can't afford one or they get full!

Now Nitro thinks (sorry Nitro) it might be a good idea for more seats in exchange for another 'free' view to go, Forget bringing your deck chair mate you will have no where to put it when most of the 'free' space goes and we all get bunched together on whatever 'free' space is left!

Some of us have to save up to go watch what we love some others can afford anything! We need to vent our opinions on changes like the above after all that's what chat rooms are for, some like me can see what else we may stand to loose but will not say anything cos they know its a waist of time which it probably is so I will shut up now lay down and roll over! smile

I was going to write a long diatribe on how things are better, but you know what ? I couldnt be arsed.

If you've been around the Pod any length of time you will know how good it is now.

And how good the strength and depth of field of competitor is.

Compare the amount spent on entry fees now and then, and I bet its below the level of inflation.

Dont want to pay, then dont go.
