Respraying the Tuscan to sell

Hi Everyone.
Bit of a disaster story really. Some of you may have seen the pictures of the Tuscan when I took it to Le Mans. Unfortunately, when removing some of the stickers ( with a hairdryer and very gently) some of the 37 year old paintwork decided to make a dash for it as well, leaving unsightly patches on the car. Not really a major problem as there car is still in its original paint and had quite a few cracks and general crazing anyway. It was looking tired.
However, I have now decided to dip my foot into the Tuscan Challenge and am looking at hiring then potentially buying a race car. This would mean that I cannot justfy hanging onto the Tuscan and would have to let it go.
I dont really want to convert it for racing as it would be one,less of a very rare car on the road.
The car needs to be painted and I want to get it done in the original colour. However Should I advertise it cheaper as it needs a repaint, therefore giving the new purchaser the option on colour? Or get it painted and sell it with a lovely new Orange paintjob ( which is more original and what I would prefer)
Thoughts? Also price wise. I have spent a lot on it in the last couple of years including new minilites and a new T5 gearbox. However as there are not many tuscans about its difficult to gauge the market value.....
Believe me, if I could keep it then I would, I will probably want to even more after the paint has been done.

Get a couple of quotes on the respray, and sell the car "priced to reflect".
If I was buying an old TVR I would prefer to know its original state,, to know where all the faults are before they are covered up.
If your selling the car, your buyer may have ideas on not keeping the car original anyway,, so why worry about it?
You'll have cash-in-hand a lot quicker!

I havent any quotes yet, but not far off over a grand I would imagine,
the problem is that as well as the purchase price ( June05) I have spent well over 6k on it already, therefore If I stand to lose too much I may just have to hang onto it.

My Vixen had a fantastic respray done at PR Wood Motorbodies - very professional and flawless job - but at a cost - £5,000.
However, I think it was money well spent. They had the body, doors and bonnet stripped right back to gelcoat and resprayed her in a beautiful Lotus Yellow. Highly recommended.
I have seen other TVRs which have had £3k resprays but the finish just doesn't compare.
With regard to price for a Tuscan - the guy who restored mine, Neil Hookway, had one of his cars sell earlier this year for approx £15k which is a bargain when you consider the owner probably spent somewhere around £25-30 for the restoration.
I think we should all hold firm on prices of our Classic TVRs. My Vixen will never be sold so long as I'm alive and able to drive her ;-) It's the most responsive, charismatic and beautifully curvaceous car I have ever driven.

Have you considered respraying it yourself? I did mine and it's really not that hard. The hardest part is the preparation before and during the process. I found that actually laying the paint down was the easy bit. Cost wise it is favourable too even if you have to buy or hire some of the kit to do it. I have one compressor but hired another to run an air fed mask which I bought for £100. Seem to recall that the paint and associated primers/thinners/hardeners etc was around £200 but that was a few years ago so may be more now. The quality of the finish is then in your own hands!the problem is that as well as the purchase price ( June05) I have spent well over 6k on it already, therefore If I stand to lose too much I may just have to hang onto it.

OK, Its has gone in for some minor welding on the chassis and a respray
the temptation now is to decide whether to keep the same colour ( orange) or go for something different.
I am thing metallic black with two matt black racing stripes along the length of it.
...although I may keep it orange....

I find it amazing sometimes that making decisions at work sometimes involving large sums of money or a risky commercial decision very easy to make, but then you are faced with what should be a simple choice to make about your pride and joy and all of a sudden you don't know what to do....bl**dy cars the temptation now is to decide whether to keep the same colour ( orange) or go for something different.

In fairness though the bulk of the prep was done prior to its visit.
