Anyone like to hazard a guess at what would be involved in setting up an executive/luxury/sports hire car business in the South East?

Obviously market research, insurance, garage space, advertising/marketing etc.

Anyone have any other tips, traps/pitfalls or things to be aware of?

I know this isn’t the real world. But I did a limo hire company project for Business studies. The worst shock was the insurance. And how it all added up to so much i really dont know. Would you have a mechanic or take them to a garage? The bank want a hell of a deposit before they will lend you anything.
Also apparently there is a lot of nasty rivalry with in the limo business, not sure if its the same for the sort of hire your looking at.

First post here- I looked at the same concept about 18 mths ago. Insurance was a big stumbling block- both cost and the fact that insurance companies seemed to want atleast one director of the company to have previous car rental experience (think its to do with risk profiles for them though I could be talking absolute rubbish!). Basically this meant it was a no no for me, though to be fair I did not investigate it massively.

Damon Hill's P1 company does this.

We devised a marketing campaign and branding for a similar venture in London about 12 years ago. The final project value exceeded £150k!!!

I thought of doing something similar. To get an insurance quote in the first place is hard enough but how about these for eyewatering prices: £19,500 pa for a 3200 and £17,000 for a LHD 355! Thanks...but I'll pass...then add the cost of buying the cars and you get the picture...
