MR2 has developed another worrying noise! :(

Took it to garage this morning about that whistling noise i posted about - whistling noise is nothing to worry about, BUT its developed another noise - a kind of faint gurgling noise which he reckons is a bearing!

could be alternator, cambelt tensioner anything really, hes not sure. He also said if the cambelt goes itll knacker the engine - but ive been told that if it goes on this engine it wont, itll just lose drive??

any idea what the gurgling noise is!?!?! im getting very worried about big bills now

It will knacker the engine, the head/valves to be more precise

Belt shoud be changes @70k mile IIRC

IF IT HASN'T BEEN DONE, GET IT DONE, it's not expensive

Check the change interval I'm not completely sure

Cambelt was changed at 60k miles according to the guy who i bought the car from (theres a receipt for it in the history). Its only done 80k now.

Thought most (older) toyota blocks were non interference. So a snapped cambelt should kill the head.

I wouldn't like to prove that though.....

I've also read that the mk1 engine is non-interferance.
FYI I had the cambelt done on mine at Halfords for £95.

Your questions would be better answered on www.mr2dc.com though, if they aren't on there already.

But I'd say just drive the thing and try not to worry about it, have your RAC/AA card handy at all times though.

Gurgling? Could be from the cooling system? Might need bleeding.

It only does it when its warm - apparently its the coolant going back into the tank, apparently its nothing to worry about. I think ill get the coolant changed anyway, its looking a bit brown (should be red).

My Supra gurgles sometimes, but it is not a BHG.

I think it is because the aircon is low on refrigerant.

It has been gurgling away for the last 40k anyway

Gurgling after a hard drive is the coolant boiling in the turbo bearing housing. It's generaly a sign that you haven't let the engine idle long enough before turning it off.

Mine used to make an odd gurgling sound when I started it up with the enigne warm. It cam from the dash board area and dissapeared afer a re-bled the cooling system, so I can only assume it was an air lock.

I've had a few cars that do that. Nowt to panic over.
