Hi,
Like many, I have had problems with engine cooling with my S1. I have fitted a Cosworth V6, and hve made some significant improvements to the cooling (ie improved airflow ect), but it still gets too hot. A mate of mine who is into restoring cars, suggested the bleedin obvious, ie the radiator! It`s from a 4x4 2.9i Sierra, and is aluminium cored, so ought to be more efficient.....but he is correct in that it might be corroded inside etc. So the obvious thing is to buy a new one, or get it re-cored.
My question is, what radiator does the V8S use? Is it bespoke, or is it from a standard prduction car, and where is the best place to buy them from?
I guess it should fit into an S1, and will cetainly have the capacity to cool my engine.

The other thing I thought of is that early cars have the radiator fan engine side pulling air through the rad, and later ones have it in front of the rad pushing air through the rad.
Why not fit both for increased airflow ?
You could possibly also offset them, so one is at the left side of the rad, and the other at the right with overlap in the middle.
Guess you may need to upgrade the electrics as that would be a lot of current flowing when they are both running.
I agree though you need a good rad to start off with.

The original S radiators were for a Sherpa van, but with an extra core. The Radtec version looks like a very good choice to me.
Hi Mark
When the radiator started leaking in my S2 a few years back, having had some mild overheating problems, I had it rebuilt with 4 cores (i.e an extra core again over TVR standard. There was just about enough space to achieve this in the existing frame).I haven't had any cooling problems since.
PS Was it you I bought the S1 alloys and tyres off a couple of years ago? If you were, just to let you know they're still providing a sterling service!!
cheers

Just another point, if you park your car in the garage hot and get a funny sort of curry smell shortly after shutting down, thats the smell of coolant leaking. (Doubt you'll smell it outside).
I have a really small leak which I only recently found after removing the distributor on my V8. I've got a tired hose hidden away under the manifold, which is leaking slightly.
Another job to do.
Ah the joys of TVR ownership.
