I am in two minds about building so far the arguments I have this

For)
I can do it over a number of years buying bits as I go. It will be 100% and to my taste. It will be one hell of an achivment and good fun to do.

Against)
I may cock it up. I may underestimate the cost get a fair way and find out that there is no way I can afford to finish it. It would be less hassle to buy a pre owned one.

So far my list of bits looks like this

The only things I can think of are wheels and dials. Is there anything else I have missed??

GTR kit 15711
Full Roll Cage 920
Rear Gas struts 59
Mirrors 294
Luggage containers 140
Carbon Luggage container covers 120
Side window vents 19
Exhaust system for SBC 1761
Ultima Leather Seats 798
4 point harnes 116
Air con 1312
Rear lights, indicators, side repeaters number plate lights 305
Triple Head light kit 418
Relay and Fuses 78
Wiper and Washer 242
400bhp Small block 4000
5 Speed box 2500

Cheers

Never mind the list, you are looking at £50K finished.

If you believe you can deal with spreading that over however many years then you can start looking at the list and the order in which to buy those bits.
Doing it over many years will increase the opportunity to pick up some bargain bits but you can't plan for it.

If you think it is a go then come back and let us know as a number of owners have spreadsheets listing everything they bought. In my case the list will require the prices validated as it is 4 years out of date but it will point at every part needed.

My GTR is about half way through, got a budget of £55k, which includes £10k for engine, Aircon and AP racing brakes (extra £2k). Original budget was £30k, but given my experience I can't see any way that can be done. Since I'm not a rich kid I've spread the build over several years - 3 years in, 3 to go. But having seen the LS7 engine install, I'm about to add another £7k, so that means at least another year to wait :-(

But I'm enjoying the build so much - very glad I did not buy a second-hand car...

(if you want a copy of my costs spreadsheet email me).

Hiya

If you want a detailed list of what you need and the estimated costs, click on the spreadsheet link at the bottom of the page below from my build site. You are looking at £ 50k - £ 55k for a good spec car

I built mine and thoroughly enjoyed it !

Tony.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I think it may be safer for me to buy a prebuilt one as my budget is quite tight, I estimate that I will have around £26k + the value of my Supra (say £10-12k) so I dont think I will be able to build a complete car on that. Is it possible to purchase a second hand one and then strip it down and fit things like a roll cage, bigger brakes over time??
