When rechipping / remapping a car, I would always choose a rolling-road session with the map tweaked by an expert for your specific engine.
"Superchips" are 'one size fits all' (which is never true) jobs and are far inferior, in my opinion.
If you want to tune a VW or Audi I would suggest AmD (Automotive Developments) in Bicester, Oxon. Geoff really knows his stuff and has a 4-wheel rolling road as well.
See www.auto-amd.com/ for more info.

I believe that Geoff at AmD does a service whereby he will send you a "best guess" chip for your car, and the more information you can give him on model, age, mileage, driving habits, etc., the better. At least then you'll have a chip that will be a very educated estimate of what would work best for your car.
As for fitting, it depends on whether or not the ECU in the S3 uses surface-point technology. If it does, you'll have to find a local automotive engineer to fit it, but if not you could even fit it yourself.
Give Geoff a call on 01869 323205 and have a chat. If he can't help you, he will probably know someone local to you who can.

Superchips. Hmmm. If it seems to good to be true it probably is - from what I've read the power increases quoted usually come from increasing the maximum rev limit (power=bangs/minute, so more bangs = more power), or by optimistic over fuelling - dump a load in, it'll burn some of it. Neither of these are particulary useful for road driving.
Unless it's a turbo, in which case they often increase the maximum boost limit -
great for power, bad for longevity.
Caveat Emptor!

M15ley, you could try www.quattrosports.co.uk They claim some pretty good power increases over the standard 210 brake, using ABT stuff from Germany. I think you will pay for it though... for a bit less cash, I believe JR do a pretty good induction kit and Magnex do a sports exhaust for the S3. I'm afraid I cant tell you any more about these, as I'm still waiting for mine!
Ask around on an Audi bulletin board such as http://audi.digitarus.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi - seems many S3 owners are chipping and most seem to go the MTM or AmD route.
I'd not advise anyone to go down the route of using non-audi approved chips!! Only Abt in Kempten germany have Audi approved and guaranteed chips. They do the chipping with your own motor management (which you send to them) and it is covered by Audi's (and Abts extended) guarantee. IF you have ANY probs with it with someone elses you'll end up having NO Guarantee and can pay for all the (probably very expensive) repairs. Talking from experience here!!!
True, but Audi UK do not approve any chip tuners.
For a while, Aston Green Audi of Slough were offering a chipping service including their own warranty - they would send the cars off to Kim Collins (quattrosports) I think and would add a couple of hundred to the price for the warranty.
They no longer offer this now though, they won't say why - blown turbos perhaps?

Sounds like the risks out way the benefits. Out of interest however I have spoken directly with Superchips and they are actually running their own S3. They also pointed me towards Audi Driver mag which apparently did an independent test/feature on this actual car. I have requested a back issue of this mag so will see what it says when I get it sometime this week.
www.tt-forum.co.uk has lots of background discussions on tuning - a lot of TT owners have gone down the AMD road. There are a number of S3 owners hanging out there too (and a Golf/TT hybrid or two).
If you want a more manufacturer friendly conversion I'd speak to Aston Green Audi in Slough - I think they still off upgrades for Audi Turbocharged cars.

You could try RSD in Banbury, they do a lot of work on VAG cars and use Ottinger (spelling) chips which have been tuning VAG cars for over 50 years. RSD provide a three year warrenty as far as I know. They do a lot of Seat and VW 20v turbo motors and the general opinion is that the chips they use are superior to Amd. Look on Seatcupra.net for further info on RSD and satisfied customers. I may be a fair way to travel but well worth it in the long run!
I have an Audi A3 T Sport and was looking to upgrade it for an S3. I booked a test drive at my local Audi dealer and took it for a spin.
Not a bad car for a 1.8 Turbo.
I then looked on the internet for some second hand prices in Autotrader and found some for around 23K not bad I thought as I would get 10k for mine.
I then looked at TVR Griffith 500 prices which I thought was well out of my price range. I WAS WRONG!!!!
I have just bought a TVR Griffith 500 from London for 15k.
I goes to 60mph in 4 second yes 4 second has a top speed of 169MPH and lookes like sex on legs, and I still have the Audi A3 to use for work every day. I think you should think again about an S3 they are replacing it anyway in mid 2002 and they will be putting a 3 ltr in it .then
