While Silverstone received the main spotlight of attention this weekend for the British GT’s TVR Tuscans amongst a whole host of other races, not too far away at a very sunny Donnington Park the Ferrari weekend was playing host to the latest round of the EERC series.

20 cars took to the grid in this the 3rd round of the series, a rearranged meet following the cancellation of the Silverstone round in early May. Qualifying saw the ex-factory DTM 190E Mercedes of the father and son combo of Andy and Julian Rouse on pole with the Marcos Mantis of team Tiger in the gravel trap – this would signal the beginning of a very frustrating weekend for both Beighton and Finnemore in the team Tiger Marcos.

Come the start of the race with the overcast skies having cleared the Rouse Mercedes went into an early leas with Julian setting the fastest lap of the race a 1:17.207. Lap 2 saw the demise of the Beighton and Finnemore Marcos with electrical problems. Battles through the field saw the TopCats Marcos driven by the Davies and Parsons rise from their starting place of 7th up to 2nd. With only 14min remaining of the allotted 2hrs the Ferrari 355 of Lawson and Back managed to take 2nd demoting the TopCats Marcos down to 3rd. Constant pressure from the TopCats Marcos now driven by Andrew Davies saw a late braking move at Goddards allow them to recapture 2nd. After 2hrs of hard fought racing only 9ths separated the two cars at the finish.

This level of racing throughout the field for the full duration of the event is continuing to show that the EERC series founded by James Tucker really is best endurance series in the country. June 21st sees the series head to Oulton Park before treating crowds to a 9hr race at Snetterton on June 28th.

If you want to see racing come along, you’ll be glad you did !!

It was a toss-up between Donington and Silverstone. I'd not been to a race meeting at S/S before, otherwise would have been at Don'ton. Made my mind up to get to some different tracks this year (I live halfway between Donington and Mallory), not been to Oulton or Snetterton yet........
Sounds good though. Might just be there next time.

Oulton's a wonderfull circuit. Its only 15 minutes from where I live, so I go there a lot. Its a fantastic place to watch racing from. Just remember that the meeting will be on a Saturday, as there's a crappy local bye-law that doesn't let them race on Sunday's. I'll probably be there for the EERC

Yeah we'll have to stick with this also. Though we tend to race on Saturday's anyway so it's not really a biggy.
