'S's and ferries

Just got back from a 1500 mile trip around the mid-west coast of France, just a minor caution, concerning about loading the old 'S' on to the ferry. Used Brittany Ferries to St. Malo. Here in Portsmouth, they were very good, mentioned about the low clearance with the exhaust. Not a problem, loaded on the base deck with the HGV's and caravans. Last on - first off. However, when returning yesterday from St. Malo. mentioned it to the dockers (in French) not a problem, they said. Placed in the queue with cars and not the caravans. Mentioned it again about wishing to be on the HGV deck, not a problem again was the reply. Then when it was my turn to drive on board, what did they want me to do, you've guess it - up the ramp. No way! Stood my ground and insisted to be placed with the trucks and caravans. Moral of the story, always make sure you are placed in the queue of HGV's and caravans. DON'T queue in the sections of just cars. - Simple!
Having said all that, I did 'ground it' on the way out, on the sleeping policemen right beside the Customs building yesterday at Portsmouth, so fellow TVR's be careful! And NO, there were no gaps between the 'sleeping policemen!'

As I said, I did 1500 miles and apart from petrol all I used was a half a pint of water! Who say's TVR's breakdown!!! And YES the French love'em, even if it is 17 years old, it still retains that 'magical' badge!

Sounds like a great trip!

I had similar problems boarding the ferry for Le Mans last year - so much so that I got stuck on the ramp going up on to the boat! Mike R jumped out and with the assistance of a ferry bloke lifted the car a couple of inches at the rear wheel arches enough for me to get on!! I'm sure they were glad it was "lightweight" fibreglass body

Sure was! Down to Dinan, Vannes, La Rochelle, Poitiers and Saintes (to name but a few) and back up to Le Mont de St. Michel where I bumped into a fellow Wiltshire TVR owner with his Chim! How does the Disney song go? 'It's A Small World.'
