Hi Robbie - same happened to me when I bought mine...
i bought a wheel brace/wrench from Halfrauds and had an old scissor jack with a built in winder that was flat enough when fully closed to get under the chassis (with a flat tyre dont forget...) you should be able to pick one up from a scrapyard or a car bootsale (if you have them on the IOM ?)
I have since converted to carrying the inflating fluid/cannister and a small compressor instead of a spare wheel anyway... gives more room in the boot as well.

Yes, and I carry a michelin compressor bought at Halfrauds (on special at £9.99) I saw Graham (Harry1972) was not carrying a spare when he visited me during my re-furb and then found my missuses mini cooper just had tyre seal fluid in a squeezy bottle and a small compressor (which will find its way into the Tiv at some stage Chris
) so I thought I would do the same... I think it was Longers who warned that a seal and compressor would be no good if I totalled the tyre and wheel on a kerb or something...Caveat Emptor...

I had to use the spare a few years ago after spinning on diesel and breaking the rear o/s wheel on the kerb. 
I just managed to get it in the boot, but it was covered in mud and grass, so ever since, I've carried a large plastic bag packed in with the spacesaver. Since then, the idea of travelling without a spare has been less than appealing.

that was the dilema I had ... there are benefits in not carrying the spare, but as usual there are risks too. I decided to take the risk, but I am still unsure how the RAC would react if called out to a puncture like you describe Roy, where the car owner does not carry a spare ... ? I know they would not leave me stranded but would they charge ?
Kevin, yes, I do take the view that I'd rather have a spare wheel than a can of tyre weld. If required I could change the wheel and be on my way quicker than waiting for RAC etc (albeit having to drive more slowly!) Also I've only ever had 2 punctures over the years, both while out on the road, and neither tyre would was in a good enough state to have responded to the tyre weld treatment!!
I appreciate you'd get more space in your boot without the spare but I'm able to fit it in with enough camping kit for Le Mans weekend so that's good enough for me!!!!
And be careful, I recall reading somewhere that tyre weld or similar has an expriy date so it pays to check it to make sure you can rely on it if you do carry it!
If space was a real issue you could try looking at the mod described in Steve Heaths Bible of mounting the spare on a bracket under the bonnet?

Am I right in thinking that some modern cars don't have a spare? The ones fitted with run-flats as standard? It'd be interesting to see what the breakdown services made of that.For what it's worth, I tend to carry my spare with me.
