Body Pre-fit alignment points

Can someone that has received a GTR shipped with a pre-fitted body recall what points the factory used to align the side pods for the initial fitment?

I'm not convinced that the sidepods on my car have been fitted according to the original factory pre-fit, and given that they have been bonded and riveted in place I'd like to be really sure that they are in the wrong place before trying to remove/adjust them.

There is a stack of five spacers between the rear-right sidepod and the vertical chassis rail, and none on the LHS - is this normal?

Hiya,

When you refitted the rear clip, did you use the number of spacing washers that the factory will have written in white permanent pen next to the rear hinges? These washers contol the lateral movement of the clip and how it lies with the side pods in the area you mention. For example, I have 0 on the LHS and 2 on the RHS.

Just a thought.

I played about with a few combinations of washers but didn't notice any markings on the hinges, will have another look in the morning.

Picking up the chassis dolly in the morning, so I'll be able to spend more time peering at it without doing my back in!

My right hand pod at the rear is spaced, the left hand side has no spacers. Something to do with the body not being symmetrical (I think)
We went on 'does it fit OK'(per factory build manual) and more importantly 'does it look right overall' all the shut lines at 3mm etc. . . .

Assuming your side pods are in the correct place, a fix for the top photo is to cut vertically up the inner "mud guard" with a hack saw then push out the side of the rear clip until it aligns with the side pod, wedge it in this position with a piece of wood, then fibre glass over either side of the previously made cut. When the resin is set and the "prop" removed the clip and side pod will remain in perfect alignment.

I have exactly the same situation with my car. I messed around with the RHS pod for AGES trying to sort that. I couldnt work out why I kept getting that misalignment as I too was 100% sure (after many many trials) that I had fitted the body as it had come off.

I had thought of cutting the inner guard to fix this.....has anyone else done that?

on Mark site, he used some spacers on the front to get the alignment right. If it is forced out, it should slowly flex out over time and line up. I remember someone having a similar problem with the rear clip, but the clearance problem was at the top as opposed to the sides and less than it should be. The solution was to leave the rear clip closed with some wedges of cardboard in there until the clip had “relaxed” into this new position.

Have you asked the factory

I think the GT40 replicas use a similar thing from memory to maintains the alignment of the clips.
