Does anybody know the size of the plenum chamber opening on the V8s? Also what K&N air filter fits the V8s? Is it easy to convert the existing Plenum for greater air flow? and finaly what about insulation for the air intake piping?
Thanks

The standard throttle is 65mm diameter.

It's possible to improve the air flow but you need to consider the whole path into the engine not just individual components. There are various people offering upgraded heads, intake manifold, trumpet base, trumpets, plenum top, throttle, AFM, air intake etc. If you don't have experience of this sort of work yourself I would suggest you talk to the specialists first to get a feel for what's available. It isn't cheap, and that's because it takes a significant amount of experience/knowledge/skill to get it right.

Lagging the intake is a very good idea. It's also possible to insulate the trumpet base from the intake manifold. It's also possible to replace the original convoluted intake tubing with smooth bore silicone hose which flows better.

Spoke with ACT suggested the carbon fibre trumpets K&N air filter and the insulation. I eventually want to improve the heads but thought of some easy bolt on mods. Read that a larger diameter intake on the plenum chamber does help re throttle response. Thanks for the tips.

Throttle response covers lots of things, and the main issue is usually how well the engine responds to throttle transients - which is largely down to tuning. Changing the size of the throttle opening has the same effect as changing the pedal leverage - the engine is more sensitive to small changes in the pedal position at small throttle openings, but this isn't particularly useful and may actually make it less pleasant to drive. The main thing that these upgrades are intended to achieve is higher peak air flow at full throttle and high revs, but to achieve that you need to consider the entire path through the engine and not just individual components.

Hi guys, excuse the typing mistakes, but i have damaged my hand (hence bing at home).

I have recently converted my ribbed pipe to a series of aluminium 3" tubes and silicon joiners / bends. At the same time I moved the rad 3" nearer to offside using adapter plates, ths allows th iduction to clear the rad and maintain a full 3" diameter t whole length of the system. Also, the freshaiinleton the near side was moved, allowing the bonnet to shut.

Pictures will tell a better story, just let me know and i will email them.

Finally, i lagged the ali pipe work with alumnium backed insulaton, a few times around. This stuff is flame retardnt, and has not melted next to the exhaust.

Now i have a system lagged with fully radiused bends, all for vey little cash, job done.

Now back in Blighty and not enjoying the rain! I had a good chat with Tim at ACT and have gone for the carbon fibre trumpets, K&N air filter. Tim also suggested I use some lagging for the intake, which he supplied plus tape at a very reasonable cost. His advice was great! Next will be the stage 3 heads. Now waiting for some sunshine.
