I was quite pleased this morning to see that Claims Direct have posted their half-year results.

£11.5 million loss, cases down 70%, board room squabbles.

Excellent! May they go down the tubes at maximum speed... bunch of parasites.

They were in Exeter high street a couple of weeks ago canvassing people...they nearly had another claim on their hands!

Bunch of ambulance-chasing low-life. No wonder insurance premiums are on the way up.

Excellent,

That really is good news - the sooner they are dead and buried the better. We just need the accident group to go the same way and the sensiable status quo will be back!

Time to celebrate

Hallelujah. They'll probably send all their junior staff out with instructions to injure themselves on cracked paving slabs to generate some business...

Great news, at last a sign that the UK public are not as gulable as I thought. The speed kills, and safety camera issues were making me very depressed but if the public can see claims direct as nothing but a bunch of shistas then there is hope for the future. Thanks for the news Neil

Only a few mornings ago on the daily slog in I witnessed a black Focus with "The Accident Group" stickers all over it driving like one of the biggest tossers ever. He came up the middle lane to the inside and then actually hard shoulder overtook I was absolutely lived to see it and really poxed off that he was too quick to get the reg so as to phone the "accident chuffing hotline" and go into one.

Sounds like he was trying to drum up a bit of business

yeah, likewise they were outside Manchester train station yesterday - luckily for them I was just returning from a TVR factory tour (see this thread is car related) and was thus in a particularly happy mood - otherwise (naturally) I would have told the 'concord blonde' numskull bint to shove it right up her ass

Doing the same outside my station at the mo(accident group), asking all sorts of people (mainly the 'scruffy' people (and i mean the doleites) who will do anything to get a few quid).

They have not asked me yet as i work there.

I did get told though at 8pm one came in and was talking to my colleague and he commented that his boss had rang him and would allow him to go home if he got one more person to sign.

Also a few months back I heard someone talk on the phone that she had gone with one of these companies and was about to get about £500. she wasnt happy as they had managed to scam over £1500 off her claim for their own pockets.

even more annoying is EVERY radio ad is the same, within 3 years, not your fault, ring us, we will get our money from the insurance payer! (and yup, listening to one now).

IT MAKES ME MAD!!!!!

Dead right Neil. There's a thing called The Law Society - meant to keep an eye on law firms. You'd think they would have closed these buggers down at the outset.

Excuse bad language, but they really do make the blood boil.

Why should they be closed down? What exactly have they done wrong, legally speaking of course? Nothing.

As long as people use them they will be there - it's a massive industry in legislation-mad USA.

There are a lot of people out there who never get anything as they never claim anything so surely something is better than nothing?

But I couldn't work for them.

And it's got nothing to do with insurance premiums going up - that's the fault of crap underwriting for the last ten years and the world trade centre losses, concorde, train crashes, hurricanes, flooding, ad infinitum. No insurance company has made much money for the last few years - they can only survive if they charge more. It's simple economics - would you rather you weren't insured? I think not.

Dont know if anyone noticed that there is a company that does the similar thing to Claims Direct, but run by proper solicitors - and they DONT take a cut of the claim that you receive. Maybe this is the best thing to do.

As for the scum low-life that use the Claims Direct service, the world (car ownership and running costs) will be a better place without them. I know of too many people that have seen a dodgy doctor to get a "I cant sleep at night" or "my neck still hurts after 3 weeks" or even "I am afraid to drive again" excuse and won thousands in compensation. Nothing wrong with them but they just fleece the insurance companies.

We complain when our insurance premiums go up - but it these low-lifes that are making it worse..... For the people that truly need it fine - but for the scumbags that dont - stop sponging of the public and get a real job...

Cheers,

Paul

I think Captain, Paul has hit it in the head. Claims Direct and clones are in it for the money not the well being of the person. They take a huge fee on success and often will settle for far less than the person deserves so they get their money. A money program was talking about these firms and the financial adviser pointed out that the person wanting to make a claim would be far better hiring a solicitor than going with these "no win, no fee" merchants.

The reason they are sucessful in the good ole U S of A are that people believe they are entitled to compensation for their own stupid mistakes. (Hot coffee case is a classic example). Its the same philosophy that every person has entitlement to armour piercing machine guns for their own "self defence".

Agreed they are not the only cause of insurance going up, but PI (Personal Injury) claims - which these people specialise in - have gone up over 300% in the last 10 years, according to a friend I have in one of the major UK insurance companies and it would be fair to say that these ambulance chasers have a lot to do with it

Makes me mad - cos it doesn`t only effect us - my local Scout Group cannot afford to insure their minibus any longer - a jump from £400 - £950 in two years!

The biggest scam I ever came across was through one of those 'legal helpline' thingys that brokers sometimes chuck in for a fiver or so.

When yet ANOTHER twit reversed into my bike knocking it off the stand, I called these chaps in because I thought it would be easier. WRONNNNG! What they did was arrange for their own garage to take the bike away and leave me with a loan bike. Only they took my bike to a bike repairer in MANCHESTER (I live in London). They then took around NINE WEEKS to replace three plastic panels and do a bit of painting and charged out the loan bike at some absurd daily rate which they claimed back from the other party's insurance! It was only when I moaned at them and complained to the other party's insurers that they grudingly brought the bike back at all - and then it wasn't properly fixed!!!

My advice would be to go for legal protection provided by the Law Club.

They are currently paying my solicitors fees after I was knocked off my Yamaha R1. Luckily cover was included with my Yamaha Link insurance. Without this I would not be able to fund my civil claim which would have been a nightmare for me as my pelvis and femur were broken in several places.

My advice, buy legal cover and understand it. An extra £50 (maximum) on your insurance premium could save your future.
