Hi Folks, just to re-emphasise Neil's post, if you or you know of someone, who has had the Viper 998 / 999 recall carried out, please get the car put on a lift and check the following:

Front End: Steering Rack - Have the new plates CONTINUOUS welds on them, if NOT this is INCORRECT and needs RE-DOING.

Front End: Oil Filter - Can you get it off???? If NOT the new plates have been incorrectly welded and will need to be removed and replaced.

998 Recall ONLY:

Rear End: Do you have a new plate rivited onto the bodywork near the diff. If NOT this is wrong and you will need to get one, even if there are NO cracks.

DC are aware of the quality concerns of some of us Viper owners and are looking for information before proceeding. SO TAKE THE TIME AND LOOK.

Keep smiling, we will get it right in the end.

Interesting remark from Viper a garage in Norfolk have done 6!!!!!!.

I am not even aware of any owners in Norfolk, they could possibley come form one of the US bases but I would have thought at least one of them would have made contact.

Not sure I trust remarks like that, but if its true could I have their details.

Wonder if they could be the Vipers from Snetterton.

They have at least 4 for the 'Supercar Experience' days.

I can confirm that Holden in Norwich have carried out recalls on 6 Vipers so far and mine will be the 7th. They seem very confident with what they are doing. I can also advise that they have looked after my car since new and I have not had any problems with them at all. They have dealt with Vipers from Snetterton and others for many years.

Just check that they are doing the rear also as some garages have been told by Chrysler that the front recall is the only job to do.

Hi V10 SPM, thanks for the note. Can you post your recall experiences on the board. There are some owners who are looking for a good garage to carry out the work for them.

Hi Folks,

The post below, from the US Web site may explain our problems with the front end recall issues some of us are having, especially Tom. All I can say is "God help us all", if the parts cannot even be labelled properly!!!!

Hey everyone,

This is a good reference picture for all that are going to do the recall. Just be aware that in my situation where it was done wrong right here in Michigan no less DCX has claimed responsibility for incorrect labeling of the parts. Eventhough the brackets are labeled LH and RH they need to be reversed to be installed correctly! The one labeled LH should go on the passenger side and vice versa. I'm still waiting for a determination from DCX Viper Engineering on my car. Stay tuned....

My car will be going in to Holden in Norwich on June 10 for front end mods so I'll let you know how I get on. They are saying 1 to 2 days work. The reason it's taken so long to arrange is that I never got any notification from DaimlerChrysler about a recall so the bits only got ordered last month.

recall work on my car carried out by holdens of norwich very pleased with service and standard of work, they were recommended by chrysler customer services,as they had previously carried out recall work on several vipers, following negotiation chrysler kindley transported the car both ways at their expense, which made the whole exercise quite painless as it was a 540mile round trip.

Hi Folks,

Just heard from DC, they are going to inspect Tom's and Steve' cars. Watch this space for the results and progress.

My recall work is finished, no problems. But in doing it the garage has found a hairline crack in one of the rear Hubs. Thanks to Nadine for sorting out a replacement at short notice.

My car has sucessfully completed its recall. But, in doing the work the garage has found a hairline crack in one of the rear hubs. Thanks to Nadine for sourcing a replacement at short notice.

Recall completed in just over 1 day (front end mods only). As far as I can tell everything is okay.

Sorry what is this front end only!!!

I appreciate that some of you out there don't want to belong to our group or whatever for whatever reason.

But if your car is NOT MADE AFTER EARLY 1999 you need the front and the rear modification.

The front is piss easy although many dealers still manage to cock it up.

But if your car is pre March (I believe) 1999 then you need to have the diff mounting strenghtened. If that is not being done then your dealer is not mavellous they are just fobbing you off.

My Viper is a late 2000 model which explains why I only had the front done.
