Too tall for floorpan!!!

Went to Supercar Sunday this weekend gone, saw Steve's yellow GTR (lovely), sat in the driver n the driver's side, and realised how well I fitted into the cockpit. This was when he mentiond that the floorpan was lowered (for bigger people)..........

.....I have got a the normal level floorpan!!!!

What do I do!!!!!

I could fit in normally but it would only be uncomfortable over the long run and its definitely something I dont want to leave.

Also, saw Wayne's GTW on sunday - absolutely immense! Looks like a futuristic prototype Le Mans car - and when it was fired up.........it drowned out all the lambos/ ferraris/ etc - sounded like world war 3 coming out the exhaust.

What stage are you at with the build?
If you don't have the body fitted yet then the drop floor will be a relatively simple mod for anyone adept with a MIG welder.
Flip the chassis over and cut out the steel floor skin. Bend up some sheet steel or perhaps buy same through the factory and weld in place. Good coat of paint and re-drill the seat fixing holes.

An easier mod than that is rather than cut out the complete floor and replace with a fabricated panel, cut along the back of the floor pan and towards the front along each side, then bend the 'flap' down at the rear and weld in a fillet to create a ramped floor that will allow your arse when in the seat to be lower and thus create more headroom.

Good plan which would also mean that when the seat is slid forward for a shorter driver it also raises.

Unfortunately the seat runners are fairly well forward in the well area so the back would have to go very much lower than a standard drop floor to achieve the required lowering at the bum position. Also the seat would now be leaning backwards and therefore not slide as far rearward. This again would not be ideal for the tall person.

So you reckon the best idea is rather than remove the whole panel and start with a prefabricated one, cut 3 sides (rear, and 2 sides) then use the metal still attached to the front and bend it in to the right shape and height, then fabricate a piece of metal to fill the gap on the 3 sides?

Clive cut the complete panel out and welded in a new one.

what, took the whole floor panel off, then got a new deeper one and welded it on?

Do you know where I can get one other than from the factory. Or how much do you reckon they would set me back at the factory?

Yes he cut the whole steel floorpan off.... He made it himself so it cost very little.

I doubt it as he emigrates in a few weeks... The factory may be able to provide you with the drop floor if you ask and then you get it welded on yourself.
Failing that I am sure we can get dimensions that you take to your local steel fabricators.
