Bonnet adjustment

The gap on one side between the bonnet and lower panel isn't even and if you push on the corner of the bonnet it springs down. So out comes the screw driver to adjust the pin in the bonnet, but it just won't shift. Am I being stupid ? is there a locking nut on the threaded pin or is it just sized ?

Bonnet adjustment is made at the hinge assembly at the front,I've heard its a fiddly job.

One of my adjusters is bent - so I reckon every open & shut its bending it backwards & forwards.
I keep putting it off but really must do it before the bonnet falls off !

Up and down adjustment of the bonnet position at the windscreen end can be done on the bonnet pins. From memory there is a large locknut (something like 30mm across flats??) that needs releasing before you can turn the pin. However loosening off the lock nut also allows the pin to float around in the oversize hole that it is mounted in, so you can easily loose the fore/aft/sideways alignment of the pin. This could result in the bonnet shutting but not opening again! (In which case you need to hold the bonnet release handle open and wiggle/thump the bonnet around to try and release it)
Best to slacken the lock nut just enough to allow the pin to turn but not let the whole thing move - tricky!

I found a plumber's wrench is just the tool to loosen and then hold the big nut while adjusting the height of the 'plunger' before securing the top 17mm nut and then the big nut.

If its like mine there will be plenty of grime around the nut which you can see with the bonnet open,scribe around the nut before you loosen the locking nut on the "inside " of the bracket this way if it moves as you adjust the pin in or out , you can get it back in its original location quite easily.
