Hallo everyone. I'm a new member, just signed up. I have an Audi A3 as a daily driver, which is great, but I'm looking for something a bit different as a fun car. I've got about £8,000 to spend, and preferably, I want something cool and fast. Anyone got any suggestions? (I'd prefer something RWD and reliable-ish). Cheers...

Have considered an 'S', but dont know a huge amount about 'em. Are they rapid? I've driven a Chim, and that rocked, how does an S compare? What makes an S3 better than a 2 or 1? will I get a V8 for the money? Any other suggestions (perhaps non-TVR... Or do I ask the ridiculous?)are most welcome. Cheers again, Currymonster.

currymonster - where are u in the UK? a load of the S boys are meeting tomorrow just west of london. sure they will more than happily give u some idea of performance etc and get to see them in the flesh.

performance wise not a great deal of difference between wedge and an S - but i am just a stato cos still cant afford an S yet - both are relatively quick cars by any standard but probably best to chat to drivers of both cars to get a proper indication.

They're not very fast, but they feel fast and have more feedback than a Chimaera making the drive particularly enjoyable. Ford running gear makes them cheapish to run. S3 should be better than S1 or S2 as they're younger and slightly more developed, but they're all old enough now that the condition of the individual car is the issue not the precise model. They're fantastic value for money currently.

I know this is predominantly a TVR site - but you have to consider a Caterham 7 as a fun 2nd car. There are plenty around for that sort of money.
Visit www.blatchat.com and look in For Sale section.
Bought mine this summer and haven't stopped grinning yet!

Apache,

Good tip - Almost.

Remarkably cheap (can I use that word in connection with TVR). I mean excellent value for money.

Apache,

They didn't keep it hanging about. I looked on the web site when I saw your message (just out of curiosity as I rate all S series) and it looked great - 23k miles, full history and only £11k !

However when I got through to Jonathon on Tues pm he said they had sold it on that morning to 'a specialist dealer' who he it didn't think it would be fair to name until he had spoken to them. He gave me the low down and it seemed impressive, did you see it running ?

Anyway, I did a bit of detective work, not that hard when you count up the 'known specialists' and then Jonathon confirmed it had gone to DG in Worcestershire yesterday morning.

However the price had gone up overnight.

Still, Currymonster if you're interested in a good S then DG are getting a nice S3C in for sale in about a weeks time.

Apache, I owe you a

Cheers for the help guys, sorry for the late reply but have been out of the country for a bit. Unfortunately, I've gotta put the purchase on ice for a while, due to a forthcoming decrease in financial liquidity!!! However, come the new year, I will have my toy!
