I've just had three passenger side panels keyed on my Griff and the rear window slashed. Not being a psychologist, I really don't understand what makes people do this. Does anyone understand? Is there a positive side? Oh, and if you're offered a dodgy set of battery kit jump leads in London, they'd be mine (that's all they took...).

This is depressing. It used to be quite rare for Tivs to be the subject of such behaviour. Which part of London was it?

Sorry to hear that Bruce.

Vandalism is a mix of flattery and stupidity.

Flattery because they damaged your car out of envy, seeing as they'd never have one of their own. Envy, jealousy, the green-eyed monster... very destructive as Shakespeare pointed out in Othello.

Secondly, they are plainly stupid, as anyone with a bit of maturity and wisdom realises that wanton acts of destruction are completely pointless, having no benefit to anyone.

I hope they choke on your jump leads after sniffing all that UHU and drinking a bottle of Woodpecker.

My heart goes out to you Bruce.

The only positive consolation is that the damage is repairable.

Also think how sad and pityfull their life must be if their only pleasure is damaging a someone elses pride and joy. Then think GOOD.

Yes sorry to hear about your misfortune, Bruce. This is the second thread about just such an act inside a week. Makes me nervous...

Hope you can get it fixed up like new quickly.

vandalism serves no purpose and can be soul destroying when you've worked hard for your pride and joy.

unless its a GATSO of course and then it's great

Sorry to hear Bruce.I've had it happen once many years ago

As on another thread,I think the low life cave dwelling scumbags that do this, seem to have the "Oh he can afford to have this fixed" attitude.

Makes me feel old saying this (I'm only 32!) but these days kids just dont seem to respect other people property.

Hope you are able to get it sorted without much hassles.

Dave.

absolute w*nkers is what i say

if someone nicks my radio or the whole car, then whilst gutted, at least i see the purpose. vandalism really really winds me up - just so pointless.

as Travolta said in Pulp Fiction - "it'd almost be worth them doing it just so that I could catch them".

I was in Singapore recently - remember the case of the American kid that they flogged for spreading graffiti?

I think we need to adopt that kind of approach here in England. Flog 'em, I say! Singapore is such a civilised and lawful place, with very little crime. We need tougher laws to deal with nasty 'orrible scroats

good point lorus.... mind you, it isnt only 'envy' keying...me and a couple of mates moved into a new flat a while back now, and had 7 cars damaged whilst they were outside (always wing mirrors ripped off or key damage) This included an F reg Peugeot 309 and an old X-reg ford escort which didnt have two matching body panels.

We oculdnt understand it and ended up videoing the whole area...turned out it was some old people (about 75!) from down the road - they didnt like people parking a bit on the pavement (and I do mean a bit - it stopped the road becoming a dangerous slalom) so damaged all our friends cars...nice eh?

I was speaking to a Jamacan mate of mine who said that this sort of thing would never happen back home, it's real eye for an eye type of law enforcement over there, the risk of what what be done to you isnt worth commiting the crime.

I'm not saying that's how it should be here but these scrotes that do this in the UK KNOW the law here has so many loopholes and ways to protect all (including the offender) that there's no fear of getting caught.

It doesnt take a clever man to work out this shouldnt be like this.

St Albans! I park next to the Crown Court 3 or 4 days a week in my Griff. Never had a problem. Very sorry to hear about yours.

I did hear about a respray garage in Hemel called Bradshaws. I recall a previous post when someone had recommended them. Haven't got a number but I'm sure they'll be in the book. Hope this helps.

regarding the old gits, you'd think of all people they would know better. However, have you tried confronting them? not likely that they'd beat you up or anything. Failing that, just call in the pols, give 'em some real crime to fight.

oh don't worry, they are all rather sorry about it now. We could give the footage to the police I agree - which would be the sensible and mature action to take.....but we havent

I dont know where you are in Herts (assuming thats the reason for your pseudonym!) but if you know some of the same bikers as me you'll know there are always more amusing alternatives..... and I didnt get this nickname cos Im nice to old people

Now, now, let's not get threatening, otherwise we're as bad as they are!

Incidentally, having started this thread it occurs to me to wonder if anyone can suggest a better, cheaper alternative to resolving keying scratches than a full on respray at my local (Camden) bodyshop? I'm already having the hood sorted at my favourite roofer for 140 for a new rear window - is this good/bad/average?
