Recently my exhaust has started rattling/vibrating when the car is on idle sometimes or especially on a slope in reverse. Can this be normal? The rubbers seems fine and exhaust isn't knocking anything underneath. Could it be the baffles?

Could be baffles but much more likely the bracket that joins to 2 loops of the exhaust has broken.

Any difference hot or cold as my rattle is worse when it get hot.

Mine does this too, all the brackets are fine...

Decided it would be a good reason to upgrade the exhaust! wink

Yep, that's most likely to be the bracket above the silencer.

There's another thing to check though mate. I had a rattle just like that and spend ages looking at the exhaust.. turned out to be a broken bolt on the rear wing. (one of the ones with an eye end that rise out of the uprights) smile

Mine rattles as well. I've had a poke at the exhaust and it seems okay, it does not wobble about. And something vibrates at the front as well at a certain rpm. More rattles than a tin full of rattlely things.

I had a rattle I thought it was at the front.

It turned out to be the heat shield that is on the down pipe fromt the front turbo, it protects the batery from the heat of the exhaust. it is held on to the down pipe with two brackets (that are welded onto the down pipe) 1 had broken away. I just wraped it with wire and twisted it to tighten.

I have a 2.5 so not sure if the 3's have this.

That's the trouble with rattles, they can often sound like they are coming from somewhere else as they vibrate though the car. I'l have a look the heat shields as you suggest.

Just jack up car and slide under, you will see it through one of the cut outs in the under tray by the battery (Drivers side).

Talk to Trevor (Yellowshed) - buy their exhaust. You won't regret it.
(waits for flames from someone they upset)...
