i think i have posted this before and i am sure i am not the first, but here goes...

i am about to remortgage and pull 20k from my house, i was thinking about an Exige but the ultima bug is here again, if i can biuld it in a single garage i will put the 20k into the build and it will give me a gtreat start whilst i save for the rest.

if it cant be done i will buy the Exige, so guys

Yo Jason, just been out and measured the width of the can am and it is 73 inches at the widest, which is over the rear wheel arches, I have 2 1/4 inches either side of my garage entrance to squeeze in, its tight, and I take a deep breath every time I drive her out, or put her in, so to build one in a single garage would be tight depending on the length of course, as far as I know it has been done. £20k save as you go along, could be a long build, any way see what other responce you get, got to say though, no comparison to the Exige, Ultima every time

its the garage size thats important, i take it you didnt build yours in the single garage, as for the cost i get about 15-20k a year bonuses so it will be fine

I built my GTR in a single garage. Space is so tight that I cannot remove the rear wheels unless I back the car out, but I do not remember having any problems with the build because of lack of space, you just have to be careful. Also I didn't need to build it on a wheeled "dolley" because there wasn't enough room to move it around. Four axle stands is all you need, and someone to help you turn the chassis over so you can rivet the floor panels in position.

I'm building a GTR in a single garage. Got about 3 inches clearance each side on the door, but the garage is 10ft wide inside, so what I do is keep it on the dolly and push it side to side to get access.

Length is my problem! It's not a short car; most of the time I open the main door and push part of the car outside when working on it. Sort of why I'm a fair weather builder (oh yeah and several years in and still counting

my garage is not 10 foot wide, but it sounds like theres a few doing it in single garages, to be honest i'd rather build an ultima in a single garage than move to a bigger house with a double garage and not afford to do it.

Has anyone nearly finished in a single garage - i.e. body on?

Im building in a single garage (well luckily its about 1.25 wide, due to a outdoor loo),
Ive put about 14gs into it so far and im going for about a 5 year build..

Bodywise im gonna get the factory to do the body prefit.. mainly because i haven't the space to store body panels.. also the on/off nature of the fitting body should hopefully be overcome...

the dolly is a must! makes life so much easier!

No I didn't build the car myself but a very talented guy did, to a very high standard, and I don't have a single garage either, I was just trying to imagine it in a single garage, I am very fortunate to have a 32L x 17W and manage to keep filling it, hey best of luck which ever route you take.

i need to EXACTLY measure my garage as i think every mm is going to be crucial, a dolly is a must as far as i ca tell - i am sure someone on here will sell theirs on, the other thought is surely ill have to build a can-am as the doors dont need any extra width to open, whereas the gtr looks like it needs another 8-10" of width for clearance as they open

right my garage has a 7ft door (2130mm) so this gives me about 5" either side, and internally its 8ft 2" or 2500mm so about a foot either side.



Sounds like a goer to me....?

i have it from mr marlow himself that he actually built an ultima in single garage, so i would think it would be a goer, even it is a bit tight.

excellent news, will be booking the visit to the factory shortly and handing over 15-20k of my hard earned to get me started, any ideas what the delevery time is for the chassis and other bits are

I am lucky enough to have a large garage, but to be hounest if I had had to push it outside to work on it I would have still done it...... if you want it enough things like that just won't stop you.



The only really important question is "does it go through the door".

crafty - your garage looks wider than a single (standard at least) as you seem to have a workbench running down the side - mine would be at the back, apparently its all about the width



Andy - as mentioned ill have 5" either side on the standard garage door, but i will probably have a roller door fitted so the old frame can be removed - that way ill have another 4 inches almost, so my thoughts are 7" either side will be plenty - almost go in sideways

You may be able to see from the last post that I hoisted the roof panel into the ceiling of the garage in the early stages of the build.



I may have a small one (garage)... but I do have a nice view from it!

Hi Jason, i think the factory tell you 12-16 weeks for chassis delivery but seem to remember mine arriving at 9. the build shouldnt be too difficult for space if you are on a dolly, as andy said its best to push it outside when you can. its also handy if you have a spare room or shed or friend to actually store a few bits in (that should be friends house). it doesnt make it impossible if you havent but every spare inch does help(so i'm told). good luck with the test fright and you definately wont go for an excige after you have been out with Ted.

When you do get to start the build there are plenty of knowledgable people on here to help with things you arnt sure about, and i think that is what you will come across, nothing too difficult but just a bit of reassurance that you are about to cut the right piece up or why indicators dont go through holes???

from the 1st picture you put up your garage seems ok, the last one looks much smaller, i take it all the doors open into the same garage?
