Hi Guys; I was wondering if any of you have noticed that when the steering wheel is moved the input spline to the rack moves in and out about .150 inchs. Is that normal? looks like theres a snap ring in there as a retainer and the spline shaft moves in and out to the snap ring. Hope that makes since I am just about ready to start up the engine for the first time in the chassis and if I have a problem with the rack nows the time to fix it. Thanks for any insight. Lee

yep mine does that. The older racks are adjustable by dialing out some slack using the large ring at the back of the rack. (let off the small screws that hold the ring - and move clock/anit clockwise. Best with the front wheels off the ground!)

I believe the newer racks dont have the adjustment? but could be wrong. Mine has done 15000 miles over 8 years and seems the same.

I have found a slight stiffening of the steering rack after 22k miles and was wondering whether any form of oiling or greasing of the rack is required, or loosening etc. Any ideas would be welcome. Its not serious yet but could be if not dealt with.
