So my ceramics ~1000 miles in seem more or less the same as when I bought it but I'm taking it easy and they do rumble a bit when hot so they're coming off*

Trackday insurance is on its way so I'll be needing some brakes I'm not afraid of using too hard and that won't explode into a puff of dust at the end of the straight.

I know I can get a set of genuine GT2 steel front disks but the rears either need the turbo (but yellow) calipers and standard GT2 steels to go and then standard genuine pads all round.

I know an alternative is to get 997 GT3 rear disks which fit right on but there is no genuine pad so I'll need a set of some other pads -- pagids? But they squeak..

There are also countless aftermarket disks no doubt, but I feel more comfortable with OEM. However, what are my alternatives?

I think I can live with squeaky brakes as this is a small price to pay for the alternative of frigging around with turbo rear calipers. So what pad choice do I go for assuming I can't mix OEM fronts with pagid/a.n.other rears?

Alternatively what of this supplier of proper carbon disks I've heard about?

Slippydiff?

Go into the Upgrades Menu, scroll down to P96 Turbo/GT2 and then into GT2 Ceramic to Steel Brake Retrofit Package, 2995 Euro.

IMHO they are good discs, however they do not last very long,i am using a set supplied by Fearnsport at the mo,they are dimpled and not drilled.
Excellelent stopping and they will last alot longer than the drilled discs.

Ann Manning... All ATDO & FAEO (inc Europe) track days FOC as part of their road policy.

My renewal price this year before I sold the GT3 was £580 which isn't bad at all.

yeah but no but.... I don't want to mess around with new calipers on the back unless I have to. It seems to talk about steel 350mm disks front and rear and pads too for 1750 euros:

As I told you previously, use the 997 GT3/Turbo rear discs. They're a 350mm direct replacement for the porcelain rubbish Porsche have palmed us off with.

Use standard OPC 996 C2/4 FRONT brake pads in the standard 996GT2 REAR calipers. It all bolts straight on without any f*cking about or changing calipers, mounts, bolts etc .

Forget putting RS29 pads in the rear calipers if you intend doing mainly road driving. They WILL squeak, and it will drive you f*cking insane (despite you thinking otherwise)

Fronts ? I'd bolt on a set of standard GT2 steels with standard pads. If you are going to track the car occasionally I'd keep a set of RS29s to drop in before (or when you get there)then take them out once you've finished. Mind you, having managed to get the front Alcon / RS29 combination to fade on my favorite section of road eek, they haven't squeaked since (as I was told they wouldn't if a I heat cycled them aggressively) hehe

If you think you'll be tracking the car more frequently I'd be bolting on a set of Performance Friction discs and pads (not because they're better than the Alcons but because they're cheaper)

Thanks slippy. I didn't know that there was an oem rear pad for the 350mm GT3 rear setup.

There isn't per se, but if the pads I'm using (front 996C2/4) are capable of doing the job in the front of a heavyish car like the cooking 996, I'm pretty sure they'll be up to use in the rear of the GT2........

I only found out by trial and error a couple of weeks ago (I had a 750 mile round trip to make, and the squealing was well and truly "doing my head in", thus I was forced into finding a fix)
