I'm currently in Dubai and returning to UK in July. If all goes well, I should be in a position to buy a car towards the end of the season. I have just finished 4th in Motorworks Golf GTI series which has been ran at Dubai Autodrome.
What would estimate to be the season's costs of racing in the Ginetta Trophy excluding 'bumps and scrapes'??

Yeah I know, had a few myself - with less than a second separating the first three, we had more than our fair share. The photos of the racing looks great - right up my street. I'd still like to know what the approx running costs would be and whether the entrance fee includes any sort of mechanical support from Ginetta or the organisers on the day?

Race entry is £300 per race, usually 2 races per race meeting, 9 meetings per year, making a total of 18 races, so £5400 for the full year. Control fuel is about £1000 for the year. Two sets of dry tyres will do you the year, so another £1000. Wet tyres are always an unknown - you'll usually get at least one set with a 2nd hand car, and they last quite a while. I reckon a budget of £10k for the year isn't unreasonable - obviously more if you want to do trackdays and testing. You might also want to check the parts & price listings available through the ginetta website. The truth is that it represents an absolutely cracking value as a series (I also moved over from a one-make saloon series for the same reasons that you're considering) but it ain't cheap. Even by comparison to other forms of racing.
Pound for pound, it's still proving an absolute bargain (although the extra £600 for a new and resprayed bonnet after sticking it in the wall on a wet Oulton circuit didn't help the equation..!)
£10k is a reasonable budget but unless you're a whizz at fibreglass then perhaps expect a little more - unlike saloons, these don't bend and need welding...
