It strikes me that this GT3 MK2 might have been a good buy...Am I wrong?

www.pistonheads.com/sales/162774.htm

After all if you wanted a GT3 for track days, weekend fun and only wanted to do limited miles, it might suit the brief.

Ok it has some history, but with 111 point inspection, balance of a Porsche warranty, coupled with a good specification, low miles and OPC service record. Does it represent good value for £43K?

Being priced at about 15-20% below most other MK2`s at the moment, has someone picked up a bit of a bargain?

Someone clearly thought it was - it's now sold.

Not sure - I had the same dilemma with a 996 Turbo on a 52 plate with 45k miles which was a Cat D write off but had a 111 Point Check and covered by a Porsche warranty. It was £43k, but I talked to a few people in the know and they told me to steer clear, the main reason being it would be hard to get rid of once id finished with it.

It was very tempting though.

Cat D I know, but isn`t this reflected in the price being at least £10K under most of the others around at the moment.

I know its buyer beware, but if you buy it at 20% under market value, have some fun for a few years doing what it`s built for and then sell it on in the future at 20% under market value whats the difference?

On the aircon bit, of the 20 or so MK2 GT3`s offered for sale over the last month or so, only about half actually mentioned A/C.

Curiously only 6 of these (all OPC) and 3 at independents actually said air conditioning, the rest said climate control, which I assume was the no cost delete option?

The asking price is less than £5k under what I sold my Mk2 (03/20k miles) for a few months ago. Also, vast majority of GT3's have A/C so some ads may not make a point of mentioning it.

Which isn't to say that the car in question has not been a good buy for someone.

Point taken, from pictures in adverts some cars seem to have a small digital screen(s) above the radio/CD and some have two rotary dials. Do I assume the former is A/C and the latter is climate control?

Yes, that's right...Digital screen = A/C and rotary dials = Non A/C.

If the car had A/C it would be fine, this car doesn't.
IIRC Rotary dials means no A/C or C/C ie it's going to be a sauna in there come the summer yikes
Digital screen means C/C (I stand to be corrected but A/C per se isn't available) ie you can only have full C/C

It probably won't be like a sauna ... there'll be plenty of air gushing in around the gaps around the doors due to a dodgy repair !!!
