Well worth joining. Chassis number not needed. 10% off at OPCs, great glossy monthly mag, insurance deals too and the like. Only about £60 per year.

I'll be picking car up ASAP so i think i might wait until i have the car, i'd want a great deal at OPC's anyway, i work for the Pendragon group that owns most of them (selling Vauxhall's unfortunetely but i'll work my way up!) I don't think they really deal with old Porsches though!
Insurance deals could be a reason for joining now though, do you think they could give me that info if i was waiting for my application to be processed if i rang them up?
I think i'll ring them up and ask them to send me a copy of the magazine out.
No doubt i'll end up joining for £60 though!!

I let my membership lapse, but the local East Mids brigade were pretty nice people when I was in the club. They're very welcoming and I'm sure they'll be happy to welcome you into the fold. They used to meet on the first Thursday of each month at the Coopers Arms in Weston (nr Derby) so it may be your local region (if my memory serves me right).
On a personal note, I've found the PHers to be even more helpful,, but I could of course have just gotten lucky.
We quite often have 'mini-meetings' at a pub near Hilton, Derbyshire for a few of the local PHers. It basically consists of me in my Porker and about 4 TVR owners who basically just take the p*ss....but it's great banter as we sit outside in the sunshine with a drink and look at nice, shiny, pointy cars......
More than welcome to join in if you want to C.C!

I'm surprised we haven't met, i'm quite an active PHer. Visit the Midlands forum for more info on other Derbyshire meets!
The Hilton meet sounds good, though does depend on days a lot for me, as Thursday and Fridays i work til 8. No doubt i'll join you sometime!

Who is in it? Is it worth it? Is it more for modern Porsches?
Can i join without putting the chassis number of my car in, i haven't picked the car up yet so don't know the chassis number, can i join and then put my chassis number in at a later date?

PCGB is the largest Porsche Club in the world outside of North America and has regional coverage all over the UK. ALL Porsches are catered for - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the largest model register in PCGB is going to be one of the newer (996/997/Boxster) models. A good summary of member benefits are at the PCGB website. Worth it imho for the cost of a tank of petrol.

No snags. I'll let you know when we're organising the next one. They're usually on a Saturday afternoon or a mid week evening.
Hopefully you'll have that beautiful looking Targa by the time we have the next one
Just in time for Summer too......cooool! One of the guys is just about to get his SERIOUSLY modified Grif back from a garage so it'll be an interesting meeting...you may need earplugs!

Hi
You must have a small tank lol....my 928 takes around a £100 worth...
But I agree its good value....10% off parts and sometimes (depending on which OPC) clothes, gifts etc....plus a good mag monthly and friendly people at local meets monthly and good events..
I had better say I am not exactly unbiased as I am Pcgb official ...928 moderator...
I have also attended TIPEC meets and they are also extremely friendly etc
All the best Brett
The people in my region (R19 westmidlands ) are a nice bunch of welcoming people, and organise some good days out, recently went clay pigeon shooting for the day for £15 including lunch! If I have any complaint its that at 31 I'm usually the youngest member there by quite some way. Summer meeetings are generally better than winter ones as you can look round peoples cars.

No worries Barnsey.....it'd be nice to have some moral support from another pork owner. You know what these TVR lot are like......They talk about British Beef, but selctively they never mention BSE or CJD......
Where are you based?
Not sure if this is the same at other OPC's, but Guildford have a policy of not giving 10% off parts unless ordered over the counter. In other words, if your car is in for a service & they use parts, they dont allow 10% off those parts (they used to)
I spoke with them about it at the last service (when mine needed disks/pads) and they said I would have to find out which parts were needed, order them over the counter, then hand them over to be fitted while the car was in for the service - to get my 10% - crazy !!
I have let my membership lapse as this 10% was a big factor of my membership (running a 996TT isn't often cheap !) this just put a hassle factor in place that I didn't have the energy for.
Again not sure if its just Guildford?

The PCGB East Midlands meeting takes place at the Coopers Arms in Weston on Trent on the first Monday of the month, so the next one is the 4th June (which I think may be the annual photoshoot). The meeting kicks off at 8 p.m. but quite a lot of people turn up and eat there first, they start serving food at 7. Cars that attend vary throughout most of the Porsche range, I personally have a 3.2 Targa and there are a number of people with cars of a similar ilk that turn up to the meetings. If you are thinking of joining you might want to come along as it will give you some insight into what the region does and whether it interests you.

When i was a member found it very average, and more of a business run by bean counters than a club (IMO), and in terms of discounts on insurance etc i got better deals when i shopped around, than when i was a member
The other club (name escapes me??) think it is "the independant porsche owners club" are more like enthusiasts IMO, more friendly and don't think they belong to a PLC.
Like any club you take out what you put in.
If you are the type of person who attends regional meetings and events the fee is well spent. Personally I have only been to one meeting and it wasnt for me although the Thames Valley Concours event at Basildon last year was good as are the local meetings held at OPC Reading.
The only downside is the amount of politics and bickering that go on, especially on the forum.
Also, speaking to other members at the festival last year many owners of older cars felt that it was not really for enthusiasts anymore.
