teething problems with the new toy!!

hey all,i need sum advice!
picked up my 3 yr old m12 3r gto on friday,seemed fine for the first
couple of hours but then the problems began!
the main issue is it keeps randomly cutting out when you declutch at low speeds,then it
really struggles to restart,not good when ur in the outside lane of a main rd! its quite
sporadic,but ive lost all confidence in driving it!! took it back to the garage,they had a look
and said some pipe had come undone and it was fixed,to be fair it was for a couple of hours but the
same problems soon came back! does it need wiring up to the laptop do u rek? this is the main prob!
however,are all door mirrors on these cars very loose,i.e on motorways is it common for the glass to move
at high speeds thus making them redundant??
also my speedo just packed up today?? not good! kinda gutted,im not too worried cos its all under warranty
but its fustrating when u look forward to having this amazing car yet these things keep happening!
hope i dont sound like a whinge,and i fully appreciate these supercars are more tempermental than most but
arent nobles renound for their reliability?
any advice would be brilliant..

Sounds like a pipe coming off or a sensor failiure that would tell the ECU to do something odd.
The mirrors are a bit rubbish at high speeds, (was the same on the rover that they OEM on) Can be stiffened upp with a simple mod. www.gto3.com should help IIRC.
The speedo sensor is very sensitive to water ingress, if you jetwash the car or really soak it then then can stop. You can pry it out with a hair dryer and give it a clean. Sometimes it may need replacing. Youll find it in the front o/s wheel centre. A 1" rod through the hb pointing at a circular metal castle top shaped thingy.
These are 3 of the 5-10 common niggles you do get with Nobles. Once you've had them all and cured them all, (strange the previous owner hadn't) you'll love it just as much as we all do.
To a certain extent though, you do need to be the type of person who can turn a blind eye to niggles, but that goes for owning any handmade car.

I have owened 2 Nobles now, one from C Neil and one (M400) from a private buyer. Richard, i too would like to hear your coments on C Neils as my car was "looked after" by them for 18k of its life and was planning on carrying on the same stamp in the book once my engine was rebuilt.
HAd my speedo pack up after torrential rainfall, and had a jumpy rev counter. Mirrors useless, so hoping to buy the noblemods ones instead.

thanx guys,i did get the car from a nolble dealer so im kinda just gonna give it them back and get them to sort it all out..thank god i didnt buy private??
from what ive experienced so far this car is better than anything ive driven b4,just want it to be a bit more consistant!!
by the way the car did get a good soaking on the way to the lakes sat night,could this be why the speedo is playing up??

Dan,
If the air con is switched on or switches on when idling the revs can drop enough to stall. This could be caused by a number of reasons but it's probably something simple like the adaptive mapping.
Two solutions to this 1) Increase the throttle idle slightly this may have side-effects with the ECU map though or 2) Have the ECU map checked over. Over a period of time the adaptive mapping will compensate for this sort of behaviour but it can get to a point where it can not do any more thus the car stalls. Reset setting the adaptive mapping may resolve it.

I've a fix for the mirrors, email me your address and I'll send it over. I too had an intermitant stalling problem which was easily cured by cleaning the throttle body. Most dealers forget this, get it done and have the base idle reset.
Hopefully you get it sorted and enjoy it when the weather comes back!

Interesting the comments / concerns people make about buying privately. I bought the M400 privately and I think it is great to go and see the car where it is kept and meet the Owner. You get a real idea of how it's been looked after and used. You also get to buy the car around 15% cheaper than at a Dealer (lot of money on an 18 month old M400) and if you're worried about a warrenty the RAC will warrenty a Noble for a little over £500. I didn't bother with a warrenty and have had no real problems with mine other than an aircon problem which the factory fixed for £80, and the odd common 'Noble Nigle'. OK, part ex isn't generally an option and I fully understand that some people feel more confortable buying from a dealer (and there are some good ones out there) so as they say "yer pays yer money and takes yer choice......"

I would have agreed with you Noble, but after buying privately, seeing where it was kept, looking at its history etc, i have still been hit with a massive bill for a rebuild. Warranty or buying from a stealer would be the only way i bought a second one

Most warranties supplied by a dealer are available to anyone, still cheaper to buy private and then buy the warranty...all IMO.

I looked high and low for a warranty that would cover over 1.5k worth of claims and could not find one. wish i had looked a bit harder now

The Gearbox/diff problems are only on the open diff cars, never heard of an M400 box letting go ( apart from richards, who is putting 500bhp through it!)
The dealer warrenties are the usual insurance backed ones AFAIK which all have limits.
Once the one year Noble waranty is up, thats it you cant renew it unlike Audi/BMW/porker etc.
