New to the forum - Just made the move from Exige to a 3.4 996. Before I sold the Lotus I was going to remove the cat and get the ECU remapped (seemed the most inexpensive way of increasing the power). Is this possible with the Porsche? How easy is this etc - anyone had any experience of either of these? Cheers.

I havent heard about many people getting increases in performance by replacing the exhaust system..

Removing the cats will cause you issues come MOT time. I am buying a 3.4, too. The car I am buying has a Porshce Sports exhaust, but I have also bought Fabspeed style Muffler bypass pipis. The cats stay in, but both silencer boxes are removed. There are video clips on the Fabspeed website.

If it is too loud for normal use, the boxes will go back on...

The other thng to keep in mind is that any non-Porsche mods, from my experience, really impact resale. More so on Porshces for some reason. IMO, I would stick to mods that can be reversed when selling the car.
