Carrera Club Sport.

In the world of classic cars, any major mods always effects prices negatively, so I'd say a 930 Turbo LE, however anything original with the letters RS on it would probably be a better bet.

Cheap 996 GT3 because I think they are undervalued being a current (ish) model. Having seen the way 2.7 RS, 964 RS & 993 RS have gone the GT3 is in with a strong chance.

The turbo based cars, whilst appealing to many and definately having their place on the shelf don`t capture the simplistic honesty of the above cars, and I think it`s that simplistic honesty which is the key to a perfect Porsche. Certainly they sell to a wide audience, some who use them in anger on trackdays, others who want them as a weekend toy, and others who value the relative limited build numbers.

I would have thought a 930 Turbo would have a good chance, and you can buy a really nice one for corca £20K-25K

I think a good honest 1986-89 3.2 G50 Carrera Sport is about the best undervalued Porsche at the moment, far more usable and cheaper to run than the earlier cars which have already had their blue touch paper lit

I have owned two in the past, but sadly do not own one anymore

Very early 930 Turbo 3 litre. Totally standard, Guards Red, correct early spoiler, red checked black half leather seats, Durrants, chrome trim. But don't tell too many people...In reality, not the best drive of Porsches, but I wager that a good early car like that is going to rise in value.

...Of the others...I don't think the 993 Turbo 4 has reached the bottom of the depreciation curve and the LE may be just a bit too '80s for it to ever rise in value (just look at Testarossa prices for evidence).

Pre impact S - 2.2 or 2.4, standard and with the correct detailing...nice car but the trade has talked these up...best wait for the bubble to burst (again)...

None of the cars you mention are really 'investments'. There are only a few 'blue chip' collectable icons that can be deemed investments in the global world of serious collectors.

I think the prices of a lot of 'run of the mill' cars are getting silly and, in time there will be an inevitable price correction. There are mirror images of the 'classic' car bubble of the 1980s occurring - and that bubble burst in 1990/91. You can bet that the wise dealers don't have too much money tied up in inflated stock.

With 911s the 'best buys' in terms of protected values, seem to be the lightweight, driver focussed, limited edition models. This includes the RSs, Club Sports, GTs. In addition some of the best pre-impact models, particularly the 2.4S and E. Anything too complex is vulnerable, which is why 959 prices have stagnated.

Condition, originality and provenance are the key criteria. The best cars command the best money.

Agree that the 996 GT3s look good value, and a late, mint, low mileage, 3.2 Coupe should be a good useable buy.

But the truth is, no one really knows. Best to buy what you will most enjoy and, to avoid disappointment, expect to lose money

How will you measure the return on your investment? Financial return is not the same as smiles per £ and mile.
