Can someone confirm that if a 'face-lift' 996 (i.e. 3.6 litre engine from 2002 onwards)has factory sat-nav fitted, the sat-nav will be PCM2 rather than PCM1?
I've searched the archives but can't find a definitive answer.
Thanks in advance,
M

I wouldn't worry too much the system is'nt the best anyway. My last three cars have all had factory fitted sat-nav in them, and the navman portable system I got given free (well not actually free spent huge amount of money with company to get it)is miles beeter than all of them.

I'd scrap the OE PCM nav module either way and get the Alpine Nav unit/Alpine Vehicle Hub through the OE PCM screen.
That sounds like a happy compromise; I like the idea of keeping the OEM look of the dash while at the same time having something that wroks half-decently.

ok now for the actual answer
pcm 2 was introduced for the 2003 model year across all models
as such, the facelift carrera had to make to with the woeful pcm1 until from september 2001 to september 2002. in fact, its one of the easiest ways to date a car on a private plate.
be warned, the above is not a cast iron rule. there are one or two 52 plate cars knocking around with pcm1 although these appear to be "old" stock that just happened to be registered late.
whatever car you go for, if it has pcm2 make sure it has all the nav disks. ive just bought an 03 turbo and as one of the disks had gone walkies, the dealer replaced the whole set. £340 plus vat gives you full european coverage plus an apgrade disk that updates the operating system for phone, nav and amplifier. oh and it all comes in a lovely little leather wallet
