After many years of 911 ownership and club membership I have finally moved to an Aston Martin. I did so as much because of the attitude of the Porsche Club of GB, whose officials are little more than petty Hitlers and are quite different from the easy going and friendly officials I remember some years ago. I fell out with them because of their bad attitudes, rudeness and arrogance, so was quite happy to end my membership, but I thought it very unreasonable of them when I bought " 'er Indoors" a 911 and they refused her membership application ( even though a years free membership was an offer made by the insurance company with whom she was insured ! ) This tells you a lot about the club, I think, who, on this basis will probably even refuse membership to subsequent generations of my family and probably even neighbours and in laws of mine !

Can anyone speak well of other Porsche clubs for 911 owners ?

Why change your car because of a club? If you have to join one, there's TIPEC anyway.

I cant think of any reason why a falling out with other club memebers would make you want to change your car?

Wow, that must have been a hell of a fall out for them to refuse membership to your wife, (though why you would want her to join given your obviously traumatic experiences I`m not sure - unless of course you don`t like the missus ).

Possibly the club were doing you / your wife a favour by the sound of things.

A new change of leader now in the form of Peter skelton who seems a decent enough fellow when I`ve met him in the past.

Register big cheese Robin Walker & his wife are friendly folk and usually there until the last knockings at any event.

Henry

edited to add: the only person who did strike me as a bit odd was that Merkin fellow who heads up the 964RS register

I cannot abide the infighting and pettiness that so often accompanies official club membership. I want to enjoy my own time doing things I want to do, in the company of people I want to share my time with. I'll be fcuked if some self-righteous tw@t is going to ruin my enjoyment/ownership experience.

Hence why I prefer unnofficial Porsche gatherings/forums.

Seems a little drastic to me!

I certainly wouldn't be able to afford the loss on depreciation just to change marks bcos one club had upset me - I would have walked away from them instead.

I tend to lurk on the PCGB 993 Register, posting only occasionally, but Maurice Piper who runs it seems very helpful. He replied to a number of n00b questions I posted during the buying process, both here and on the PCGB 993 forum.

I joined the PCGB for my first year of ownership, but felt like it wasn't the scene for me. It all seemed a bit too 'serious'.

I prefer the informal forums, mainly rennlist, where I have met some really great and easygoing folks, and had a few great days out.

Has not being in PCGB made any difference, well no. Do I have a problem with the PCGB, no, it's a free world.. Each to their own I say
