What kind of Twat runs out of petrol first trip out?

So, up @ 5.30 to meet the Southern contingent at Box Hill for departure no later than 7.10, on to the M25 with various Ultimas joining us along the way to meet with the rest of the crew at J13 of the M40 @ Warwick services. Had a brilliant crack driving up and what a SIGHT! 7 or 8 of us, GTR'S, CanAM's and a GTW all on the road together, at once and in convoy ( of sorts, what with swaping places to break up the journey a bit ). All was looking fine on the way up; Water temp = 75/80 Oil pressure = 70/80 psi Fuel pressure = 70/75 psi ( does anyone see a pattern emerging here? ), when all of a sudden, the motor starts to miss, only running on 7 cylinders, accelerate a bit, it goes, de-celerate and it is back? After what seemed like several hundred yards, the motor dies! Hazards on, coast onto the hard shoulder with a couple of Ultimas pulling up to see if there is anything they can contribute ( thanks guys for the support ) but there isn't so they go on their way and try and catch the pack.
I have had problems from the off with regards to the sync ref and automatically thought the problem may centre around this area and didn't even consider I may have run out of fuel?
Any how, after an hour or so, a few phone calls to the oracle and a bit of leg work from my pall Kev going of and getting a can and some Super unleaded, we were mobile again.
Moral of this story: Do not let the excitement of any situation distract you from carrying out basic tasks like making sure that you have enough fuel in your tank to cover a given distance.
My only saving grace is that I have not yet gotten around to programing the fuel gauge and this was the biggest trip I have been on yet and I really have little idea of the range capabilty. Anyway, that is my excuse and I am sticking to it.
Did have one other small drama but I will save that for another time and despite all of it, I did have a bloody good day out, thanks fellas

Don,t worry Wayne shit happens ,we all learn from our mistakes have run out in mine too fortunatly we were just pulling into a garage ,GTW looked great but you have to get it finished off no messing about now get in the garage and get cracking !!!!!!! p.s though the pink bear was abit over the top ...but whatever turns you on !!! simon

I think I was following Steve in the middle lane at the time, when you came hurtling past. You then slowed right down till I was nearly alongside you. I thought you was just showing off and was expecting you to nail it into the distance. Did not expect you to indicate and then start to pull into the middle lane. Certainly gave me a heart stopping moment
Still, no harm done. Lessons learnt for both of us, methinks.
No hard feelings eh?

Until you just pointed it out Gaz, I was totally unaware that you were there, sorry old bean if it caused you a bit of a heart murmer
No, the other thing that happened was that my sidescreens are not bonded in yet as I am looking at a way to have them removable so whilst waiting for Kev to return with the fuel and as a few spots of rain appeared I hastily tapped the screens in place with some electrical tape. I have found that as long as you do not go over a certain speed, they will not ( up until yesterday anyhow! ) blow out. All was well untill a Subaru came lamping past and the temptation was just to great. I now know the speed at which you will lose a sidescreen held in with electrical tape. Needless to say firstly I was concerned about those behind me and then I was peeved that I had lost a screen. Much to my suprise I looked in my drivers mirror ( the only one that use Gaz, as you know ) only to see the side screen sitting perched on the rear wing! Unbelievable, but true.
