I was just talking to a C4 owner who said that C4s are appreciably cheaper to insure than their 2WD cousins due to them having fewer accidents/ insurance claims?? I have not yet had the time to test this theory out, so was wandering if anyone has had any experience.

From quotes I had when looking at a C4/C2 no difference in my experience

nope.

actually, IIRC, the C4 I was considering was slightly more than the C2 I got, though it was a higher value car.

Yeah, there was quite a bit of difference in favour of the C4 when I was looking.

It's cos they're slower.

Not when I got quotes. There was no difference between 911 C2s or C4s trading at the same price - so asking for a quote on the model made no difference - the only difference was about trackers, alarm and garage.

I can't imagine the volume of claims from 911 C4S's would be statistically significant to justify them being treated as a lower risk, even if the data supported this. In any case, on a like-for-like basis, the C4S is more expensive so that would count the other way.

All other things being equal, I think that 2 quotes on the same basis for a C2S and C4S would be the same.

The only other possibility is that because they obviously can't handle a proper rear-wheel drive car, C4S drivers are 'shandy drinkers', 'good with colours', etc and maybe that fact is the reason why insurance would be cheaper............

Both are same insurance group so next biggest determining factor will be value of the car (assuming similar specs, etc).

I too found that when getting quotes for the 996, that the C4 where coming out cheaper on insurance than the C2, it must be to do with the insurance claims on C2!!

Definately cheaper on C4 due to claims. 2 different insurance brokers have told me this. TBH I can't see it makes any difference, but the quotes I got were £923/yr on C2 & £748/yr on C4 (SAME COMPANY, NU).
