993tt pic at last
Discussion
I don't know if it is just this picture but the more you look at it, that has to be one of the most ridiculous rear spoilers on a production car. Yet it still manages to look oh so sexy
Very nice. I love the 993TT in silver. Gorgeous.
kayc - for some reason I thought you had a white one though? Maybe from a previous post of yours.

Nice one Kev - will be interesting to hear how it compares to the 996
IIRC the white one is Kenny's
Very different to the 996tt,build quality is better and it feels incredibly well screwed together(part of the reason i wanted one). Its also imo the best looking 911 and certainly attracts a lot more attention than the 996tt did.To drive it has 'character' if thats the word, and feels very quick at lower speeds with what feels like much closer gear ratios than the 996, however the steering and general handling of the car feels very prehistoric compared with the surefootedness of the 996.As a summary the 996tt is an awesome car(especially when chipped)and much more confidence inspiring..the 993tt is a pleasure to drive if you enjoy the quirkiness of an air cooled model and one of the upsides is it doesnt encourage you to drive like a maniac at at all times testing the cars abilities. The wife hates driving the 993 as well which is a bonusIIRC the white one is Kenny's

Is the build quality really better? I often hear 993 owners (and me when I had a 964) comment on how the doors sound solid when you close them etc etc. But, as the safety needs of the newer cars (ie 996) increased, the only way to keep weight sensible was to use thinner steel to lighten the doors and panels. At the end of the day, the 996 and 997 cars have torsionally stiffer chassis, more airbags etc etc that all add weight and bring dynamic and safety benefits.
Of course, I could be wrong - but I too use to equate a solid sounding door closure to 'build quality'.

I know what you mean, but try this in a Mercedes E Class. You get a lovely thump from the door as it closes, and then lots of tinkling noises as all the interior trim falls into your lap. I think with the 996 - particularly the earlier cars - the problem was as much to do with materials quality as anything else. I think Wendy had a real go at setting a build cost for the 996 that dictated some fairly draconian economies on the cabin fixtures and fittings. Elsewhere too, no doubt.
ETA - Gorgeous car, kayc. I'd an arctic 993TT X50 myself, and still miss it more than I ever missed my 996s. You posting more pictures at some stage?

I will but having a bit of a shocker uploading them,ia there an easy way?
What I do (and I'm sure there are better ways) is just google 'tinypic' and then upload my pictures to it directly from my pictures file, wait for tinypic to issue me with an and then click and paste that here - presto!

1)Get an free account at www.photobucket.com
2)follow instructions there to upload photos (its very simple, basically just click 'browse', browse to the photo on your pc, select it then click 'upload' in photobucket)
3)click the bit below each picture in the album where it says "IMG Code", this should copy the link, if it doesn't say 'copied' then highlight it and ctrl+c or right-click>copy to copy.
4)in your post, paste each of the photo links in using ctrl+v or right-click>paste.
HTH - I think I made it sound complicated but really its not.
