993 RSR's Silencer
Discussion
Hi, Now that I have my mint C2s... the modding bug has alread started.
Can someone advise how good the RSR silencers are from Gert in Belgium, They seem to have a great write up but I really dont want any resonance in the car..
My C2s already has the motorsound airbox fiited which makes it sound nice . However im after somthing a little more throaty lkke the 964's...

A lot has been written about the RSRs and I can confirm that they really are as good as people claim. I'm in the West Midlands. If anybody wants me to welly my 993 up and down the road so that they can enjoy the aural delights and make their own assessment, I would be more than happy to oblige.

Sorry to be thick, but are 993 RSR mufflers factory RSR items, or who makes them?
Not factory Johnny, a guy in the states on Rennlist (Robin sun I beeive?) started off, opening up the standard 993 boxes and removing some of the sound deadening material and part of the internals, welding them back up and selling them under the name RSR.
In the last few years they have been available in europe from Gert at Carnewal in Belgium.
The good points on RSR mufflers from my point of view are...
They add great sound to the 993 exhaust note
They are based on the factory parts (modified)
Little or no booming inside the car
They are cheaper than other after market versions
They are a little lighter than than standard (bits removed)
However, remember the following...
They do not add anything to the power output
They are louder than Porsche intended them to be
They bang and pop a bit
They can make you struggle on the MOT (it should pass though)
You need to budget for new clamps and straps
You need to send your original ones to Belgium
Go for it!

yes just rang Gert and he needs to know what I have on already. There are 2 types and you need the right type to fit on your existing setup.
it seems odd that no one in the UK is modyfing these. Seems straightforward enough if you have the right tools..;-) Anybody fancy having a go at mine...?
Gert is out of stock at the moment

I personally think the bang and pop on the over run is desireable. Also, I'm not aware that the RSRs make it any harder to pass the MOT. Mine's been through two tests without any issues. Have you had any problems with yours?

I fitted RSRs 2 weeks ago they are great, took about 2 hours start to finish. The 2 types of rear box are interchangable with the right parts,
But check the state of the heat shields that are fitted to the boxes as the bolts will be very rusty and will probably have to be cut off so you will need at least new bolts and speed clips
If you are close to Surrey come see and hear them for your self
email for any other info

PP. The only time I took mine for an MOT (usually done with service) about 2 years ago, it took ages on the bit where they stuff a tube up the exhaust. MOT guy said it wasn`t a noise issue with the RSR`s more the emissions, he had to let it idle for ages and we almost ran out of time on line, which would have been a MOT failure.
Sorry I am not that technical, but it did pass!
I've put a set of RSRs on each of my n/a 993s so far. They don't add any power, that's true, but i want them for the noise and they are perfect. No resonance, still pretty quiet on a constant throttle on the m'way but crack the window open and blast down some b-roads and it's amazing.
I have heard RSRs wth 100 cell cats recently though and i think that has to be in my future now

David, RSR's won't affect emissions, maybe your cats weren't that hot though - always worth driving "with spirit" on the way to the MOT

Good point VS, now there`s and excuse...
So looks like I have the bischoff variety but alas Gert has none in stock at the moment as people are keeping their original box's ... So the only option is to send the existing ones over to him or try and get someone in the Uk with a masters in TIG welding to have a crack at mine... Anyone know of anybody......surely cant be too difficult to open the cans up and take some of the baffling out....
cheers
