Ultima GTR - whats it really like?

Hi Guys,
Thinking about purchasing a GTR (pref metallic Blue) and just wondered how its going to compare to the other cars I have. Currently a have a couple of Lambo's (Gallardo & LP640)360 and a couple of older Porsches.
Predominately the plan is to use it mainly on track (maybe even race it, if there is a race series?)with some road use as well.
Just wondered if any of the owners could give any feedback of whats its like to live with on a day to day basis, and any problem encountered/to look for.

Hi Andy,
If you find yourself at a lose end next Sunday, the you should get down to Stoneleigh for the National Kit Car show. There will be over a dozen Ultima of different model and grade. You'll gain more from a day there than a year on here!!
I think it goes without saying that the car is not a daily driver. Some will argue against that. But for me it the ultimate car if you like peformance, exclusivity, and the pride that is taken from building a car from the wheels up (or in our case, the chassis, down!)
I would say that for peace of mind ownership, if taking on a pre-built car, then you really need a reasonable level of mechanical knowlege. Without it, the ownership experience could be spoiled by something like a thrown belt, or ignition problems. Having said that, if a mechanic is doing your spanner work for you, then he'll find it a doddle. A well set up, bug-free car will run and run, with just plenty of fuel and oil!!

If it is to sit into your 6th gear business, then expect it to take a load of takers....for some reason they just get so much attention (which of course, we shy and retiring type, really can't stand!! He-he!!)

My suggestion would be to go and have the test fright with Ted Marlow in the Ultima company demonstrator.
You are well used to performance cars and would probably not believe us when we say that any GTR will out perform all of your cars so the only way you will believe it is to ride in one.
From my perspective it is not a car you just jump in and drive. The mere act of getting in and strapping on a four or six point harness just adds to the drama and sense of anticipation. The performance and care that has to be taken with the power still scares me every drive. Having said that I still drive it to work even though I know I will just pootle along in traffic.
My MOT man said i would have to take him out on a test drive. He then said he understood why he had put an advisory of 'rear tyres close to legal limit' on my certificate. We were going up the road sideways at the time.

I've done this drive with Ted and had to ask him to "slow down", I'm so ashamed
BUT will be buying and building a kit early next year when my brother arrives from Australia!
I dropped into the factory on a Saturday on the 'off chance' of seeing the car in the flesh. ended up on the test fright and ordered my kit a week later. At the time i when i told friends and family about it i had to describe it as a ride on a roller coaster, it is a complete adrenalin rush.

Thanks for all your feedback. I was planning to attend Stoneleigh anyway next week on the Monday, so will be good to have a chat with you guys if any of you are going.
The thing with the Ultima started at Le-mans in 2002 when I saw my first one and thought wow! Since then I've had a lot of really nice motors but still have this hankering for one.
I would love to build one from a kit myself as I'm fairly handy with the spanners, but I just haven't got the time, so a ready built second hand one is going to be the route I think. I am planning to add the Ultima into the 6th gear fleet as I think it would do really well. Joe public that come to our events haven't got a clue what an Ultima is (most of them don't even recognise a Lambo when they see one!)all they want to drive is a red Ferrari! But seeing it there with the doors up looking like a beast, I think they would be queing all day long.

It is the noise that does it then the acceleration (not much difference to the lambo but raw) but the big thing is the braking at 170mph- nothing can get close to it! May see you next weekend but most probobaly in the porsche unless I can organise an MOT this week.
