Hi Chaps,
Whilst DIY swapping the handbrake on my 996 tonight I dropped one of the nuts down the slot at the point where the cable enters the car through the tunnel, i.e. through the two tubes which run into the back of the console which through which the cable runs, (if you know what I mean) !
There's no way I can get my fingers down there to retrieve the nut as I can't even see or feel it.
Question is, is the nut floating round down there likely to cause any damage, or might I just get an annoying rattle ?
Also any ideas on how I might retrieve said nut ?

You could get one of these? I know Snap-On do a little bendy one for getting into really hard to reach places as well. Any decent tool shop will be able to help you out. Failing that, chewing gum on a stick.

Pop down to your local hardware shop and see if they have a magnet on a flexible cord. Have seen people using these before to retrieve metal items from tight/enclosed spaces.

Unwound wire coathanger? A dab of grease on something "pokey" can often grab a dropped item. Could you release the handbrake cable at the wheel end and use it to push the nut back up?

Invite a few mates round, turn the car upside down and give it a good shake!

You will need to get your RMS done now.

They will also probably recommend new pads & discs !
